I25 N to Denver (and all of Denver) and I70 will be a wreck between 6-9 am if not later. So if you can avoid those times the Denver route might be worth it. If you're leaving in the morning, I would just go through Colorado Springs (seriously, take the 10 minute drive through Garden of the Gods, it's on your way) and go down Hwy 24.

Anyone in Green River for the night?

Passed thru Green River this afternoon. In Moab now watching the best lightning show I have seen in awhile.

Packed & ready to roll. The adventure starts @ 05:30 for the San Diego crew tomorrow. Hopefully San Diego's finest IPA won't be consumed before we reach Silverton on Wed!

@SanDiegoCruiser Will be fun to see you again!

Quick story - @SanDiegoCruiser was nice enough to do a pre-purchase inspection of my truck that I bought sight unseen 3+ years ago now. I flew out to pickup the truck and met up with Craig and shared a beer and a chat on my way out of town. We did the first of many mods to my truck in his driveway (12V plug power always on).

Almost 4 years later, it looks like both of our trucks have a few more bits bolted onto them!

Thx - we'll head through CS and check out the Garden of the Gods.

We took the same track as you - not sure how far you're going today, but we're in Limon. Left St. Louis, MO at 6am this morning - 750 miles later, we're in CO! Heading to Ouray 4J++ tomorrow - look forward to meeting those of you also staying there!

We stopped in Junction City Kansas for the night (@87warrior, I'm in your hood). Been looking forward to drinking this beer for hours.

Actually I need some advice on fishing. We didn't catch anything today at Haviland. We learned that Molas and Haviland do not have regulations on bait. My question for you local guys is if you could use anything to guarantee bites and catching some fish, what would you use? My boys have to catch something or they are going to revolt.
If I were bait fishing in a lake, I would make sure to have all of the following and then figure out what is working: night crawlers, power bait (orange or pink), salmon eggs.

Do you know how to tight line fish off the bottom, like you would for catfish? Put on a weight big enough to bottom fish and then one or two hooks spaced apart. I actually would probably rig something up like a Carolina rig personally, because I like how the egg sinker slides and gives the fish a little less resistance. Then, use small hooks, like size 12-14. For the salmon eggs, use hooks just big enough to hide one egg. You don't want giant globs of bait to catch trout.

Bait the hook, cast it out, get the slack out of the line, prop the rod against a chair or forked stick, and wait for the bite. Trout don't always take the bait hard so you have to wait for the bite and then set the hook when the rod tip starts twitching.

Packed and ready. Plan is to hit Flagstaff tomorrow for some MTB time. Then depart early Wednesday for HIH.

995 miles later with stays in beautiful Clovis and Santa Fe, we are Silverton. Were is everyone.....Jk, we will be bouncing around the area a bit, will be keeping an eye out watching everyone roll in. See you all on Wed.

Well just won $80 at the casino in Santa Fe, I'll call that a win for the night! Looking forward to meeting you guys later this week!

So here is the best bit of advice you all will ever get!

While tent camping in the San Juans, you may want to go into town to eat dinner. Not a bad idea, nice people, good food, and local beer on draft! It's even cool to leave all your stuff in your tent, cause people at the campground are cool also...so cool in fact, that you don't have to zip up your rain fly on the screen sections of your tent! Just let the nice sunny air flow through the tent.

Then it happens...while you are 15 miles away at the pizza place. You look outside and it's raining. It's that big fat rain too. You say to yourself, and your wife, that's it's ok. Our site is 15 miles and like 2,000 feet of elevation away, it's more than likely not raining there. Then you start driving back, and it's still raining...still raining...then it hits you...it's raining at camp. And you didn't zip up the rain fly.

You then spend the next hour or so telling the kids to just go to sleep. At least the sleeping part of the tent was dry. Then basically dump the water out of everything and realize that there isn't anything that can be done til the morning. You tell your wife it's all ok, worse case is we take all the clothes and throw them in the dryer here at the campground. But deep down inside, you feel this guilt. You feel it because you know better. If it hasn't rained yet, it's just a matter of time.

DO NOT LEAVE CAMP WITHOUT ZIPPING UP YOUR RAIN FLY!!!
