Wait Grass Valley ca? We left there yesterday

Yes. Originally we were going to roll through to drop our dogs for two weeks with family... but it turned into a longer visit. I was hoping to run into someone coming across 50... but nothing so far. Going to do the train museum and Great Basin caverns tomorrow then move into Utah. But we will be in Silverton on Wednesday!

Got to Durango tonight. Set up camp a little outside of town at Riverside campground. I think I really like Durango. I know nothing about it, but it seems like a good town.

At a stop light, after unloading everything but what's in my drawer and the fridge, I got it to go into high! So at HIH I will be dumping ALOT of weight out of the backend.

This just proves I need an off-road camping trailer of some kind.

[edit]
I see Grego posted same thing while I was typing.
Anyhow I would put off the dealer service, put a new filter on (get a Toyota one at dealer). As previous poster said, there is not oil in hoses going to oil cooler those are coolant lines. Oil comes through passages in block to and from cooler.
[edit]

If you recently changed filter, that would be first thing to pull and check. Could have nick on mating surface, bad gasket, etc. Get a new one.
That one does not look like a Toyota filter, they may have given you the wrong one, close but not quite right.

I threw a hand on the filter, it's tight. But I guess anything is possible. The simplest thing is to have Toyota throw a new filter on and check. I'm not worried if it costs me a little bit more, I have 4,000 miles more to go and I don't want to be concerned. I'll keep you guys updated. I appreciate the help very much.

We are in Hartford IA right off I-80. Wave as you go by. I am feeling so left out reading all of your "I'm packed and on my way" posts I can even stand it... someday I'll make this epic trail ride with you guys. Until then, post pics so I can live vicariously through all of you.

Good news. If my cruiser isn't repairable I have a backup.....

Maybe the white on, it's 10k off!!!

I have 1/2 a quart with me. I'm about a day behind you. Currently in Amarillo.

Pulled into Amarillo for the night.

Just before we got here, I looked and saw my AHC light was showing I was in low mode...and I was doing 70-80 mph! I freaked, slowed down and pulled off on the next exit. I stopped, got out and walked around the truck. It looked like it's on neutral, in fact it is.

But I stuck the flashlight down on the AHC reservoir and it is sitting at the minimum line. Turns out what I thought was the fluid line was a stain on the plastic of the reservoir. I'm dumb for not double checking this. I think it's the reason the truck won't go into high. Does that sound correct to you guys?

Also, anyone know where a guy can get some fluid on a Sunday....in Amarillo or in between here and Durango?

I'm blaming this on the Toyota place that "fixed" my problems not too long ago since my cap was missing when I got it back. So I have some foil and zip tie for a cap now!

Well, since I did not register in time to get a position at HIH7, I decided to take a trip to Colorado from July 7-14 and check out everything before you guys got there. We drove the Million Dollar Highway from Ouray to Silverton, which was beautiful. We visited Leadville, Glenwood Springs, Colorado Springs, Lake George, Buena Vista, Granite, Twin Lakes, Turquoise Lake and all points in between. We didn't have the LC with us but were in our truck camper, instead. I love the area will be visiting again later this year. I truly hope you guys have a great time and maybe I can get in next year!

Here's a poser shot of my truck and camper:

Yep that is my route. I should have posted earlier, as you have all kinds of great suggestions! Skyline red may not work as we are towing a 13 ft travel trailer. Googling black canyon now.

Probably too late with my reply, but I was going to say: park the trailer at the beginning of the road (big parking lot), drive Skyline and return to hook up the trailer (probably an 8 mile round trip tops).

Always trust mud! It was the oil filter, back on the road. Thanks everyone!

Same, I can barely get 1/2 mile on mine
Don't expect much more than that from a CB. They have a very low transmit power and if anything is in the way like trees or dirt, it's even worse.
