Anything but solid rain is a good forecast for Silverton. The nights will be plenty cool and there is a good chance you'll be cold on the passesI was really hoping for mid 60's in Silverton, looks like the forecast is showing 79, 80, 81 next week. Its better than what I've got but I was hoping for a chance to be "cold."
Going West today.
650 miles behind us already and another 300 to Salina for the night.
Air temps are stupid hot today. It was 90 at 9:00 am, and 104F rolling through St Louis around noon. Coolant temps have been back & forth between 1, 98 &204, trans temps around 154, hotter than I care for but I'm pulling a trailer with my moto, rooftop box, and enough tools to open a repair shop.
Looking forward to cooler temps, and really dont mind the prospect of a little rain in Colorado- that should keep the dust down on the trails.
Stopping in Snowmass and Crested Butte before Silverton.
See ya'll next week.

Loaded up and on the road! Should hit pueblo by 9pm camp for the night. Than on to ouray after spending the day exploring bishop castle and the royal gorge! Looking forward to meeting everyone and watching all the 100's role in!
There are road side spots along the trails that spur off of the main road from Silverton to Animas Forks. I'm hoping to set up camp a couple of days before the event in this area, or at Ironton.Anyone have any suggestions for boondock camping near Silverton? Heading down on Sunday afternoon and want to stay somewhere for a few days before the weekend event. Original plan was to stay in Rocky Mt NP but want to escape the crowds .
I'll add it to my list!If you have some time, do Skyline Dr in Canon City. INCREDIBLE views. about 3 miles in total length all paved.
I'll add it to my list!
Yep that is my route. I should have posted earlier, as you have all kinds of great suggestions! Skyline red may not work as we are towing a 13 ft travel trailer. Googling black canyon now.If you do happen to have more time in Canon City, you should also consider driving up Shelf Road to Cripple Creek (touristy mining town with casinos) then return by driving a mile or two over to Victor (smaller mining town with lots of old character) and take Phantom Canyon Road back down to Canon City. Shelf Road and Phanton Canyon are gravel and very, very scenic. The loop would be around 65 miles or so.
I assume you're going to Ouray via Monarch Pass, Gunnison then Montrose. If so, and if you've never seen it before, you NEED to see the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park.
