Wow, these pics look great. I can't wait to get out of the Texas heat....my rig is stock with Yokohama A/T-S(275/60/18) OPOR sliders.....guess I will be okay on most trails except the ones you guys tell me not to go on.
Great to know, now I'm even more excited. Will be fine on all trails except the Poughkeepsie trail (difficult version). We will offer the Poughkeepsie trail with the bypass option this year as a separate trail option. It's an awesome trail with or without doing the "wall" obstacle, which we highly advise having sliders for.

For those of you guys that have done multiple day drives to HIH in the past, how long did you drive each day? I have a 36 hour drive and bringing my 11 yr old and the dog so trying to determine if I should shoot for 10 hours a day which would take me about 3.5 days? I plan to leave the Boston area on Sunday morning and would like to arrive in Silverton early afternoon on Wednesday. Trying to plan my route and where we should try to stay each night. Going to try to book KOA's for cost and ease with the dog.
Any advice is much appreciated! Getting excited but suddenly feeling like I'm behind the 8 ball with getting the rig ready and booking places to stay.
I just follow andy and pound as much coffee as possible along the way.My drive is about 21 hours. I've cut it into two days (15 hours and 6 hours) and three days (4 hours, 11 hours, 6 hours) depending on who was with me.
If i was going to do a drive as long as yours, I'd do my best to knock it out in 3 days. But that's a loooooong way man.
The KOAs are usually pretty nice and right by the interstate. I stayed at the one on the Oklahoma/Arkansas border last year on the way back and it was clean and quiet I'd just plan for 12 hour days with multiple quick stops to break up the drive.
They have the little cabins with a queen bed and bunkbed. You bring your own linens/sleeping bag. They are basic with hardwood floors but have a window AC unit and small tv with satellite and have always been clean in my experience. They may fill up depending on the location, but you can primitive camp on site as well. There is an app for KOAs that comes in handy, but each one in independently owned and operated by a family living on the premises.Good to know about the KOA's. Makes it easy with the dog and there seems to be plenty available along I-80 and I-70. Think I'll make reservations at 3 KOA sites that are about 10 hr drives and play it by ear if we feel we want to drive longer or need to stop earlier in the day.
Do you guys book hotels in advance or just find one when you're ready to stop? Finding a room without a reservation in my neck of the woods is just about impossible, but maybe it's not such a big deal in the middle of the country?
