7pin mod, or just 1 on/off switch...?

I have been reading everything I could find on this forum about the 7pin mod. As far as I understand, if I cut the blue/black cable at the left under my dashboard, and plug in the "central lock connector" behind my dashboard in the middle, I can switch the central lock on and off in high and in low gear. Is that correct?
BUT! If I just want to switch OFF the central lock in low, while I'm not interested in switching it ON in high gear, isn't it enough then to just put an on/off switch in between the blue/black cable?

Thanx in advance

I believe you can actually pull the pin. Great video on YouTube that explains it in depth.

Btw sweet video you posted in the other thread. You have some nice scenery around ya.

Now that I think of it, just the switch is enough to keep it off in low range. If you want it on in high, them you need the 7pin. My memory could be wrong. It's been about 7 months since I've read up on it

Yes, this is correct.

Why go through the trouble of wiring in a switch to accomplish only 1/2 the benefits of simply pulling the pin from the harness and adding the CDL switch to have complete control?

Yes, this sounds correct. Don't think I have heard of someone trying to do that before, interesting thought.

You have it backwards. If you want it on in high you need the CDL Switch installed. If you want it off in low you need the 7Pin (or switch as he is indicating).

The switch he is proposing makes the 7Pin reversable (that is, the CDL would still automatically turn on in low as long as the switch is closed) and doesn't need a separate CDL Switch at all (unless you do want to turn it on in High). It seems like a good way to get the benefits of the 7Pin mod if you don't ever need to lock the center in high. Without this switch, if you do the 7Pin mod, you NEED the CDL Switch in order to lock the center regardless of range, with it you don't need a separate CDL switch if you only lock the center in low range.

I put together a summary of the 7Pin/CDL Switch operation last year (when I was trying to understand it all). I may need to update this with the switch on the 7Pin idea.

Ya, I get what he's trying to do, but why add a switch that has less than 1/2 the functionality of adding the CDL switch? The CDL switch install requires no additional wiring, is completely reversible, and gives you FULL control of the center diff lock whether you're in high or low, and if you have F&R lockers, it also allows you to use them in high range too. I just don't really see the benefit here. Is having the CDL automatically when you shift to low range something people care about retaining? It's just a button press away if you want it.

Yep, you're right. I shouldn't post so late at night haha

Thanx, amigos! The reason why I don't want to install the CDL-switch, is because it's very hard to find here in South America, but even more, because it is expensive and I just need it to switch off the central lock when I have to do a steep uphill on pavement (yes, with corners :-) )
And I already have put an extra on/off switch in my dash.

Find a junkyard toyota, does not have to be a Land Cruiser and use the hazard switch for CDL very simple and very cheap.

I you really cannot find one I could mail one to you
