TRUCK HAS BEEN SOLD Bought this truck earlier this year with full intentions of getting it back on the road. Ain't gonna happen and I want my garage space back, so here's the story.
79 FJ40, original color mustard, previous owner removed the tub. Cowl is there and in decent shape. New CCOT front fenders. Bib, aprons, hood, grill and screen in good shape. Running boards good shape. Some rust in sides of hardtop and at bottoms of doors. Windshield frame very good. Tubular spare tire carrier is in excellent condition. Frame rust free but the rear piece needs bolted in, minor item. All glass is good, fiberglass top in good shape. No license plate bracket. Bumperettes are there and in nice shape.
Dash is very nice, unmolested. All gauges there, instrument cluster nice, glove box door and ash tray nice. Original radio and antenna in place. Steering column unmolested all switches where they should be dash is uncut. Steering wheel original and nice.
Jump seats just about perfect, passenger front seat very good, driver seat has one or two split seams. Frames and adjusters are good. All floor mats there and in good shape- front floor and cargo area. Console is nice. Transmission/transfer case boots still in place on nice cover. Looks like none of the doors have ever been disassembled thus all the panels are there, all handles and knobs in good shape. Ambulance doors similar shape never been molested. Rollbar in good shape has some minor surface rust at bottom of one or two posts. All original seat belts and shoulder harnessses are there. Interior light is there, too. Top dash pad has a small crack other dash pads look good.
Previous owner cleaned and painted frame black. Looks nice. He also ran new OEM Toyota steel brake lines to the rear. New brake pads on front. Transmission and transfer case shift nicely. I installed a new clutch disc, pressure plate, KOYO release and pilot bearings all brand new parts. Axles, springs, drivesafts all original and in nice shape. Radiator was supposedly cleaned, repainted and re-installed. Brake booster and master cylinder look good. Battery tray in nice shape. All wiring is complete and uncut- even the rear harness for the tail lights and such looks good. Emergency brake and hardware included. Gas tank is there, has some rust around the flanges but looks to be intact. Fuel tank dstraps are there, too. Has Warn manual hubs.
Engine was de-smogged (plumbing and stuff removed) but the original smog pump is in place. This truck has factory power steering, too- even has the neat cooler lines running along the top of the frame in front of the radiator. Factory PS is a great option to have. Exhaust manifold was removed and replaced with a brand new chrome header. Carb was removed and replaced with a brand new Weber, and included is the correct new Weber throttle linkage parts, and a neat (I think) K&N air filter for the Weber. Engine has not been run since carb and header installed. The reducer for the back of the header is included but otherwise there are no other exhaust parts. Included is the original carburetor, linkage, and air cleaner PO said they worked fine. Has a new fuel pump, distrinutor cap and rotor. This truck has factory electronic ignition and of course the correct coil/igniter are there.
Wipers are in place and the wiper motor cover is there. Sun visors are in good shape. Wheels are the original gray steel with hubcaps (have five wheels). Tires are like brand new smaller size something like 225-75-15. Front turn signals are there, headlights are there but I am unsure whether or not rear turn signals are inclluded- I don't think so.
This truck has 66K original miles, and a clear PA title. As mentioned earlier the truck original color is mustard. I bought this truck because it is unmolested and pretty much complete, and trucks like this are getting harder and harder to find. The low mileage is attractive and the factory power steering is a greta option to have. Finding an FJ40 with an uncut wiring harness is rare indeed. I bought the truck from a serious land cruiser family and the previous owner pretty much kept tabs on keeping everything together. As much as I want to buy a tub and put this thing together I have neither the time nor the energy to do so. I paid $2500 for the project and that's what I want for it. I believe this is a great opportunity for someone to get a great truck at a good price.
I'm sure I forgot some stuff. Best way to reach me these days is home email shmukter@pa.metrocast.net or work GSCHMAUCH@cartech.com. I am working long hours the next few weeks but calls to 570-668-2489 before 8PM eastern are OK. Truck located in Brocton PA zip 17925, northeastern PA not far from Paragon and Rausch Creek offroad parks. Shmukster
