I've got a question about seemingly unused connectors in the main wiring harness under the dash on my 79 FJ40 (USA) project.

Answered below, thanks!

It had been previously desmogged with all smog components removed, but with the main harness mostly intact. The rig has most of the factory options per the schematic (carb cooling fan, rear heater) also seemingly intact, but untested.

After discovering issues with my stock oem distributor and coil/igniter, I've decided to upgrade my igniter, coil and distributor to a large cap FJ60 setup.

So, I'm removing the 63" loop of Yazaki resistor wire from under the dash, leaving the heavy gauge BY wire as one run from the ignition switch to the coil/igniter.

With the main harness removed from under the dash, I'll also replace a burned reverse light wire. A new fuse block has already been installed and wired to match the schematic.

Since this project will probably never be "re-smogged", certainly not by me, I also want to remove the ECC wiring and any smog-related connectors in the engine compartment to simplify things and make the harness more manageable, but I don't want to delete anything I may use later.

OK, so here's my question. I have three seemingly unused connectors in the main harness that I can't seem to locate on the 79 schematics (see top photo, looped segment with yellow tape around it).

Because it's looped and secured with yellow tape I might assume it's an unused factory option. Or, yellow tape on my 100 series cruiser seems to have something to do with the seat belt / air bag system, again factory tags.

Focusing on the bottom photo with that segment pulled away from the main harness, locate the connectors with yellow tape and "?" on them.

The two unused connectors on the bottom of that photo branch off the main harness near the carb fan relay and module above the throttle pedal.

The one unused connector in the top of that photo is the other end of that subharness (pulled away from the main harness and looped around to show in photo). It branches off above the passenger foot well. There is another unused connector there as well that I have to look into.

These seemingly unused connectors don't seem related to the radio and speaker wiring that use bullet connectors, which is mostly the case with the courtesy lighting as well.

The seat belt warning module and its connector are intact, but I'm not sure what else that system needs to work (the warning light does illuminate before start, but my aftermarket seats aren't connected).

Any ideas, based on location and wire colors that might suggest what these unused connectors might be for?

Fyi, at some point, I plan to wire up a relay for a Warn winch that came with the project, and may add fog lights and better interior lighting. But, I want to keep things clean and simple, starting with the current harness work.

Thanks very much for the link.

All of the known items in that thread, I think I have accounted for. Not sure about the question marks. Leads me to think my question marks might be some sort of uninstalled option?

Well, whatever that unknown harness segment with those unused connectors was...it's gone now!

Fyi, there was a wire in the segment that was tapped into a yellow tach wire, as well as a couple of ground wires that I tied together. Still curious as to its intended purpose, but it wasn't needed before and hopefully won't be needed again on my rig.

More unused circuit deletes, the infamous and hard to come by Yazaki resistor wire

And next, the no longer needed ECC connector and associated sensor wiring.

It is part of the A/C harness. Some of it connects under the hood as well. I pulled that and the resistor that you pulled.

Deleted the ECC wiring from my main harness.

I opted to clip and heat shrink unused wires at their respective connectors, leaving enough to see the wire colors. Might make it easier to locate and clip the right wires on the mating connector.

Just about finished re-doing the main harness after deleting Yazaki resistor wire, ECC and AC wiring.

While in there, I double-checked the fuse block against the schematic, that I had previously installed on my back under the dash when I first started this project. I also added wiring and connectors for fog lights and tach. Much easier now than later.

A few more things to do before attempting to re-install the harness. I hope I can get it back in there!
