Any ideas on stopping the dragging that happens when I open the rear door with my spare on?

I have a steel wheel with a 33” tire, mounted on the factory spare wheel mount.

The fit is solid, but the drag I feel and the tiny drop it makes as I open the door completely is a smidgen concerning. Any thoughts to stop the drag is appreciated.

Ive considered small tires but that’s a whole diff convo and Ive looked into a rear bumper that has that swing out mount, buts its more effort in that Id like at the moment.

When you add more weight than a stock spec tire and wheel assy to the door mounted carrier, it will likely cause stress at not only the hinges but also the sheet metal seams. I have heard from others that crack and seperation will form where the sheet metal is.

Replacing the hinges will possibly fix the problem but the root cause of the problem may be deeper than just the hinges.

I get the dislike for swing outs. I was using a swing out on my current Kaymar for a bit but I just like the look and function of the spare mounted on the door. If I ever decided to go with heavier and larger wheels and tires, then I will begrudgingly put the swing out back onto the kaymar bumper.

I put a new rear big door on my Troopy with a new spare tire mount and new hinges.
I set it up to drag slightly when opening and closing.
I did this on purpose so that I know that the door striker is carrying most of the weight of the spare.
If you loosen the hinge bolts and lift the inner lower corner of the door, then re-tighten; you can eliminate the drag on the striker.
I chose not to go this route because then the hinges are carrying all the weight.

Oh that's interesting. You intentionally set that up to relieve stress. Hmm worth considering
