That is quite the find. Seems extremely nice and extremely well priced. I'm actually hoping no one buys this. I would jump on a plane and drive that home if I had the play money right now.

Actually, I think I'm selling myself on that pig. Must resist.

Hi Pablo, bobm, everyone,

Rookie question: Did they change the wheelbase in '78? I assumed that the frame & length was essentially the same for all pigs...

Another rookie question: Even if the new paint job was hiding abundant levels of bond, do you think a fully functional '78 with restored interior and all it's parts is worth $9650? Based upon prices I see lately, it almost still feels like a decent deal to me even assuming the worst about the body...

Last rookie question: Hypothetically, which would be better for a buyer, a very knowledgeable pig-seller, or very confused ill-informed one? :-)

Thanks!

I think there are $10k worth of parts there. It took me more than $10k (and a LOT of time) to get mine running and looking nice.

No idea how well she will run for you, it could be a mechanical nightmare, or it may bring you years of smiles.

Does it have PS or AC?

Can you go see it and drive it before you buy?

No.

It's not just the bondo, but what's beneath the bondo that's more concerning.

My '72s entire arse end was sculpted out of bondo, concealing massive rot.

Personally, I either want to see before and after pics and documentation, or would rather buy one that's had nothing done.

Is it worth $9,650?

Probably, at least in parts alone, but knowing what I know now, I wouldn't spend that much on anything undocumented.

Assume that the body shell is worthless. It'll cost. $4-8k for a solid replacement.

Don't know that it's not better to spend the combined total on one that's been documented and done correctly, or buy for half the asking and do yourself.

Either way, a large investment.

Based upon prices I see lately, it almost still feels like a decent deal to me even assuming the worst about the body...

Keep in mind, most of what you see has had a lot more invested than asking.

Hypothetically, which would be better for a buyer, a very knowledgeable pig-seller, or very confused ill-informed one?

If they're listing online, they're an informed seller.

Hard to trust a wolf in sheep's clothing, said from someone still recovering from two bites.

Thanks for the replies.

I would definitely drive it and see it in person before I would buy it. However, it is at least a full day's drive for me one way. Realistically, it's probably not the right time for me to make a purchase. I have a ton of other things to devote my time and money to, however my 45/55 cravings have flared up again real bad!

I'm trying to keep educating myself in the meantime.

...but you never know, I might take a last minute road trip to TN...

Good job warning off people from buying a 55. This is the one that Wayne "Crushers" is considering for a 70 series drive train transplant.

Wayne knows what to expect and is, by no means, new to the game.

Feel it a duty to fully disclose how NOT to go about purchasing, since an area with some degree of expertise and knowledge of costs to correct what was stated to not need correcting.

A nice paint job is worth nothing if it's concealing rot and any are suspect, unless a pedigree exists otherwise.

Pretty much, all Pigs are guilty of rotten cores, until proven otherwise, in my opinion.

Not trying to warn off anybody from buying a 55, just warn them to look for rust. Number one problem, in my opinion, is rust and it starts on the inside.

Wayne could write a book on what to look for in Land cruisers, I couldn't scare him away with a stick.

I couldn't scare him away with a stick.

Exactly.

Based on little experience with Pigs, a solid body is worth $10k and that'd be my only concern buying one.

Considering a track record of gross misrepresentations of Pigs purchased, if the body isn't solid, to do it right, you're gonna wind up with $10k in it.

Much better to go into it with eyes wide open to that, and buy one that's not been painted (again, if undocumented) than to pay a premium to discover later.

Jereme,

Congrats on the new wagon. There's always something to learn in the 55 forum. Enjoy your new ride and I look forward to follow along with your fix up.
