1978 FJ40 Black, 350 tbi

*****SOLD*****
It is time to thin the herd and sell some toys. I have owned this FJ40 since 2000. It doesn't get the use it deserves since I replaced it with another one, so it is time to move on to a new owner who can give her the love she needs. Located in Templeton, California.
There has been a lot of work done to this FJ40 over the years from myself and the previous owners. Here is a list of most of the features I can think of:

§ 350 conversion. TBI fuel injected V8 from 1987 truck.
§ 4 Speed Toy trans with Center force clutch
§ Toy T/C
§ Toy axles, 4:11 gearing, front disc brakes
§ ARB air lockers front and rear, ARB air compressor
§ Saginaw Power Steering conversion
§ Front shackle reversal
§ Rancho 5000 shocks and steering damper
§ ARB Bull Bar front bumper
§ Tow bar
§ Warn 8274 8000 LB electric winch
§ front roll cage kit
§ Rock slider bars
§ Rear bumper w/ receiver hitch
§ u-bolt sliders
§ old man emu leafs
§ approx. 4" lift
§ 5 point Simpson seat belts
§ After market gauges
§ Polyethylene fuel tank
§ 22 gallon auxiliary fuel tank (not hooked up)
§ Black spoke rims (tires were bad)

This cruiser is a good runner. She needs some freshening up, but there is great potential here for the right owner. This FJ40 was originally purchased in Georgia, so it is a 49 state non-catalyst vehicle. It is currently in non-operation registration status, no fees due. Title in hand.
$6900obo

Interested in parting out the bumper?

Kyle, No thanks. more car projects would be moving in the wrong direction.

Interested in parting out the bumper?
Ill have to take a pass on parting her out right now. That would be a shame. I just started pricing some of the parts on it, wow I may be parting it in the future. Thanks for your interest.

I know this isn't helpful right now but if you still have it next spring I will buy this from you. I really like it, bump for a cool ride.

All '78s were non-catalyst. This won't help get it past the smog man in CA. It will need cats and emissions from the vehicle the engine came from and a trip to the BAR referee. Done already?

Looks like its legal..... It has the Bar Sticker for CA on the firewall. I remember looking at this when it was for sale in 2000..... Good luck with the sale!!!

Thanks crzr45! This has been a fun FJ40. Glad I got it before you!:) I remember the seller mentioning someone from Pismo beach looking at it. I wonder if I have seen your 45?
ckramer10, hit me up in the spring, I wrapped her up for the Winter. I am in no hurry. Out of State may be easier. I haven't smogged it yet with the TBI 350. The 4bbl passed just fine with the BAR sticker. It will probably have to go to the ref, but my understanding is you don't need a cat in a non-cat chassis. (heat/safety issues is what I read) It may turn out to be a PIA, who knows? All of the smog equipment is there. Isnt Cali wonderful:rolleyes:

Sold the 45 now have the 4 bt 80 and the FJ56 Fire Engine.. Always looking for more projects... If it has the "non catalist" sticker as yours does then it will not require one in CA as I did the same conversion on a 1978 a bunch of years ago as it is a Fed model... I am ready to wheel anytime...

Well, spring is in the air and the '78 FJ40 is out of storage. I found the hard doors in storage to go with it.

I will also consider a trade for a 1 ton work truck, 4x GM preferred.

If you still have it in late May/early June I'll be interested. I'd be flying out from Iowa and driving it back. How do you feel about it's road worthiness on that trip? I wouldn't be rushing along, probably a four day drive back. 6 hrs per day.

It will do great..except my only concern would be the tires for that kind of trip. They are getting old, and cracking some on the sidewalls. The longest road trip I have taken with it was up and back to the Sierras for a wheelin' trip. About 8 hours road time and it did great.

Sounds like an excuse to buy new meats for her! I will be in touch with you late May. Take care.

Well, the '78 is still for sale. I put on the doors, jumpseats, skidplate, and aux. tank. Also put on some skinny tires/rims because the BFG's were bad. Ready to go, shoot me a text!
