Installed a Pertronix LS1261 on our '78 2F. Fired right up, sounded great and ran like a top. I did not have to adjust the timing.

My son took it to college and on the way back this weekend he said that it felt like the engine started running rougher.

When he got back I did think that it was running rougher. The engine seemed to "roll / oscillate". It seemed like the RPM's are a bit lower and the engine does not idle the at one RPM - it is subtle.

I don't know if this is a timing thing or ??? I have checked for vacuum leaks around the carb. My next guess is that it is a timing issue. I am going to check to make sure that the ground in the distributor for the Pertronix is a good ground.

Just went back down and realized the distributor clamp was loose as heck.

Also the vacuum advance screw was missing on the side so it was loosely goosey too

Don't know how we lost that screw or the distributor loosened.

I am unclear of how to adjust the vacuum advance. I saw the screw hole in the vacuumed advance and the ability to compress the vacuum advance and then tighten, which IS WHAT I DID. That is above my knowledge base on how to adjust that correctly

Maybe we need a pic, so we know what you're talking about. Did you adjust the timing?

I'll have to get a pic later, headed out for my daughters soccer games.

We could not get the timing light to work. We had this set the timing by ear which is about as unscientific as you can get

I was going to suggest checking the distributor clamp. I may or may not have left it loose in the past. 🙄

Nothing wrong with that; I have a couple of timing lights but still do my 2F timing by ear - as far advanced as it will go without pinging or knocking under load.
