New project for this year and it’s going to be an interesting one. Here’s what I’m going for.
BODY - 1998 75 series cab from an ex Canadian mine truck.
BED - Some sort of Ute type flat bed
CHASSIS - 1996 80 series with factory lockers. Finally get to put my LX parts rig to good use.
ENGINE - Cummins 6BT. Still need to buy this piece.
TRANS - NV4500. I have purchased a new one to swap in my 80 and will rebuild the one presently in it for this project.
TRANSFER CASE - HF2A converted to part time.
TIRES - I have 5 315/75 GY Duratracs on stock 80 wheels that will work nice for now. About 50% tread remaining.

I want to make a work truck. It’s needs to be something that can take ranch work abuse. It’s doesnt need to look good but it need to be mechanically sound. I chose the 6BT due to its what I know and i can mirror the setup on my 80. It also meets my needs of diesel, gear driven, direct injected, no glow plugs, and fully mechanical. I thought about the 12HT but I just love the 12V Cummins.
My present work truck is a 96 Ford F-350 4wd with the IH 7.3. Great engine but it’s electronically controlled and has left me stranded with no start situations due to sensors. I also can’t stand working on Ford vehicles. It’s a beat to s*** truck so the bar is low to make something better.
Cab and chassis as of Friday when delivered.
@lelandEOD previously had the truck and took the drivetrain for his project. The truck had been passed around quit a bit over the past few years and. Now it’s my turn.

The big white wheel barrow is now on notice to be replaced

I moved the truck to it’s outside build location and went to work today. Removed roof, windshield, doors and dash. Hopefully next weekend me and my step sons can lift the cab off to then concentrate on removing the LX body. It’s was 95 degree today so I think a pop up tent will be purchased. It was brutal and it’s not even summer yet.

If anyone knows anything about the hydraulic steering, axles, and brakes please let me know. They will get sold, hopefully, and I would like to know where to start looking to figure out what they are.

Look like telehandler axles or something. Probably not worth much, tough but obscure but can't say definitively I guess...

Can’t wait to see how this project progresses, Cimarron. Glad it arrived - I would say unscathed, but that seems a little silly. Lol.

Did all the pieces and parts show up OK? I was afraid the driver was going to try to remove the top and windshield to stay under 14 foot.

He took off the top but everything showed up fine. The driver is also my top prospect for the axles. He was very interested in them.

Looking forward to see the result of this !

I guess you will have to make a trip up to my shop at one point in time to get some little nick nacks for that 75 body ;-)

I need to pick some stuff up in Austin and get some other parts there also shortly.

Yup. I’m sure I will be making a few runs to your place. Let me know when you get your in bound container situated and that will be run #1

Picking up container nr 1 in Houston tomorrow and the second one should arrive next week.

Looking forward to see you again.

So what was the customs process?
The truck has floated around the US for awhile so I don't know. For me since I have a title for my parts rig it will be registered as an 96 LX450. I did get all the paperwork to see about doing everything legal since l am switching the body. The state satellite offices in Austin that do titles were caught in a big racketeering scam so I'm staying away for awhile until everything cools off. This build will take awhile so I'm in no hurry to change the title.

Ah... I found a decent one in BC if theyd come down on the price but getting it across the border is my concern. I'll buy a donor 80 for legal purposes once here...

I got the interior of the cab completely broken down after work. I can already tell I won’t get much done this summer standing out in the direct sun so I need to figure something out quick.

Once I have the cab off the frame and the front clip removed I’ll bring it to work and power wash it. The mine dust is everywhere.

Right side floor pan was “fixed” at some point so that will get redone. Left side will need some attention as well.

Cowl insulation will get a cleaning also. More mine dust.

And more mine dust to clean. All the filters in the heater were filthy. I didn’t take any photo on the removal so hoping parts diagrams will work good enough when ready to put back in. I’ve got plenty of dishwasher cleaning to do when the wife’s not home.

Holy smokes, that's a lot of work!

That alkaline dust is a nightmare. Every inch of the engine and transmission were coated in a thick layer of it. Anything that was aluminum was corroded by it and it took a lot of effort to remove it. Oddly enough, I found that soda blasting took most of it off pretty painlessly.

I think this will be my last mine-truck purchase. Also, I didn't even know about the damage to the floor. It looked to me like the mine had riveted the floor mats to the floor for some reason...

Yeah the riveted mats were a bit odd.
