is there anything out of the ordinary in making this swap? I have a 74 fj40 with a front drum brake setup and I have purchased a 76 fj40 disc brake axle to install in its place. I am also planning on using the oem wheels off the 76 truck. I think there is something I need to remove from the clutch master cylinder? Any input is appreciated. I am trying to gain as much knowledge as possible before beginning the swap.

You need to remove the residual valve from the front circuit of the brake master cylinder and maybe do some replumbing. Use new U-bolts and retorque them a couple of times after installing.

Hi All:

This is an easy swap - I did it several years ago on my '74 using a '78 frontend.

You can retro-fit the brake hardline from the drum brake axle onto the disc brake axle.

I believe you will need to mix n' match drive shaft flanges - the '74 and '76 flanges have different pattern dimensions.

Good luck!
