My original stock engine has been damaged beyond fixing (money to rebuild ratio) The main seal was smashed before i bought it, and the cam bearings and camshaft, and crank journal are f-ed.
DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS? I'm thinkin a rebuilt F motor is the cheapest way to go.. ANYBODY HAVE ONE? Or want to rebuild mine??? If anyone has any ideas please let me know, I live in Santa Cruz, CA.
THANKS

Hey gumboman,I live in Felton and have been semi-restoring my 69 40.I got a "free" F engine from a fellow mudder&put it in to replace my tired old F eng.If you can swing it,I would go with a good used running 2F engine.I saw a good one for sale in stockton(Orange45) from George.Sounds like a good deal, and he is a stand up guy,I would buy it! Check the for sale section often.Thats what I am going to do next after mine is on the road for a wile.I have the hoist& it's not that hard to do!Swap it out again w/a 2F& do the SM420 tranny. So you do have alot of options at this point. Is your 40 a daily driver& just want to keep it stock?
Let me know if I can help,I still have lots of work left to do on my 40,but you are welcome to stop by and talk cruisers! My cell # is; 831-359-0648 My name is John.

Oh and I almost forgot, welcome to ih8mud :flipoff2:as this is the offical salute!

Be careful when you suggest rebuilding an F motor. Some of these guys get cantankerous at the suggestion! My guess on your responses,

50:1, swap with 2F vs. rebuild an F.

My first thot was Georg's motor too. Supposed to be rebuilt with lo mileage early 70's F. But that was a while ago, and priced to move.

Can't hurt to shoot him a PM.

2f vs F

thanks for the input! Why swap for 2F instead of a rebuilt F?
I have heard the 2F fits w. no problems.. but will i need to get a new 4speed tranny to go w. the 2F???
thanks

I have a 69 F that I pulled for the current 2F in my rig. It needs some new gaskets (it pretty much self changed its own oil) and one of the side cover bolts is broken off (I never bothered with it since it is near the firewall necesitating pulling the engine to replace it), but other than that it ran fine (no idea what the complression numbers are). You can have it for a case of Sierra. It is located at my parents house in Turlock and is already on a pallet for easy loading.

74 2f engine

i am new to this site. i have a 2f in my 74 that runs great, i am wanting to do a v8 swap in the near future i would be willing to do some trading for a windshield frame and top or an adapter that goes from a 700 to a 3 speed case
