alright, so this is my first post. i just purchased a rebuilt 1973 f engine for my 40 and after getting it running, oil is not reaching the head. ive searched all different threads and i have taken in alll the advice. i have the engine side cover off right now where the copper tube is attached that delivers oil to the head, and after removing the tube im pretty positive that the cam bearing is not lined up with the hole. just looking for some input or advice on what my next move should be. you cant really see anything in the pic but its on here anyway. plus a pic of my 71

Welcome.

Remove the front cover of the engine and remove the cam shaft after removing the rocker arm assembly, the push rods and fuel pump...

Look at the #2 cam bearing and see if the holes in it line up with the holes in the block..

Make sure the camshaft has oil holes on the #2 cam bearing journal...

Step #1: Return the engine to whoever rebuilt it and tell them to give you one that oils the head or even better tell them to give you a 73 1/2 or later F motor or a 2F and be done with it. I have both at the shop right now.

ok, i pulled the cam and the bearing is defenitely not lined up with the block. do i have to drop the pan to get it out?

You may be able to remove it out the front of the engine like a small block but I am fairly sure that you will have to do it from the bottom end. IE remove the pan.

Sorry to sound like a dick in the earlier post but it bothers me when "experts" don't actually have a clue what they are doing and end up costing me or anyone else time and money.

By the way that is one good looking 40.......

thanks dude. just a clean father son project thats pretty much all original except for lift and tires. it was my daily while im goin to school so im just tryin to get it done. all i have right now is my 02 zx6r and its not very fun in the rain. so im yankin the engine back out on my day off next week and try and get it done with some help from a buddy that builds engines for a living. so ill keep it updated
