I’m working on a 92 fj70 out of Venezuela, and there is a ton on play in the column, both on the splines section and at the joint. The gearbox has been freshly rebuild, the axles were just resealed with all new bearings, the only play we have left is in the column. I can’t seem to find a replacement and it’s all over the road at any speed above 40 mph. Any solutions or part choices you guys know of in the United States?

Intermediate shaft out of what? They never sold the 70 series here, so the dealers can get the parts.

What I am saying is the part for the intermediate shaft for that specific 70 series is available from your Toyota dealership.

Or you can buy the u-joint separately. Again from your Toyota dealership.

What dealers can get grey market parts?

Alright, so I went to toydiy.com, put in the frame number, and got a part number 45260-60090. I then called my local dealer, gave them the part number and they said it doesn't pull up as a good number. Are there any other parts vendors / options that might be able to get the steering shaft? SOR is hit and miss with 70 series

Perfect, thanks man! That's just what I needed. Finding parts for this truck has been a real pain in the butt!

Sand rider-
You have been here a long time but this is your first 70 series. Since US dealers might not be too much help you must learn toyodiy or other parts searches so that you may spend your nights looking at variations of parts you might need or want to buy. The good thing about a 70 is most parts are relatively cheap and a click away if you know where to look. If you can't find a 1991 part you might find a 1995 or 1997 that works fine- just ask. Your body style is same to 2006, embrace getting the latest part that fits as often it is the cheapest and last produced. partsouq, amayama, burauto, megazip and others can fill those orders.

Thanks Rick, I'll keep the list of vendors on file! I did front brakes, axle seals, calipers and clutch slave cylinder, which are a mix of parts from FJ80s, early pickups and the clutch slave crosses over to a supra. This steering column gave me the most trouble!
