If you don't need the capacity of a Troopy, a BJ74 (13B-T) might be a good option.

The shorty just does not light my fire. Too small and it just looks like someone forgot the back end somewhere! I know they are very popular and it might be due to availability. The only drawback to the troopy is the lack of rear doors like a wagon. I'm sure that can be a hassle if the interior is not organized properly.

Technically the BJ74 is a "mid wheel base"....... Not a shorty. :)
Like with all Cruisers, there are compromises, however the BJ74 is a turbo diesel right out of the box.

I just did a picture search and the 70 is what I had in my head. To me the 75 troopy just looks right. Might be because I'm used to my 60 and the room it affords me.

I would imagine the long wheel base would be more comfortable for long road trips. On the west coast, nothing is close.

Can't go wrong with a Troopy. The 2H (earlier model) or the 1HZ (later model) can provide years of reliable service.

I'm sure I will have to be patient as Troopies are rare. I'm not sure what the difference is between the two engines?

Those wabbits just smile and wave as they fly by, might hear a whistling clacking quaking as they pass.
Have noticed though, that where the ol' 62 or the 80 attract attention, the shorty 70 draws mostly females, bikini's, and much better than average.

I love tech threads with bikinis

So how about a European BJ 75? LHD and low miles per several recent postings in Mud classifieds.

People seem to "get" RHD or not

I would rather have a LHD if possible. RHD it not that big a deal. I've been practicing with my son. He drives and I make believe from the passenger seat!

I think the issue with Europe is rust. Most Japan sourced vehicles are in better shape I believe. Do all the 75 Troopies come with a 6 cylinder or do some come with a 4 banger?

There are BJ75 out there (4 clynder) mostly out of Europe I believe, the conditions seem to veary more on these compared to JDM, but nice rust free ones can be found in either markets and vice-versa. It just depends on how patient you are and how big of an investment your willing to make. Having a 13bt in my 74 (turbo 4cyl, the troopies would have a 3B wich is non turbo) seems like a good match for the mid size 70 but I'm not sure I'd want it in a bigger long wheel base. I don't mind taking my time to get some where but that my be pushing it for me.

If I was looking at troopies I would focus on a latter hzj75 vs the older hj75. Main things are power and parts availability. Seeing that your 60 has a v8, a 1hz is still going to be a it of "a let down" compared to a gaser v8 but it takes a turbo well if your looking for more umph. Also if this is going to be a long term investment that your gona have plenty of 1hz parts for years to come since the motor is still in production today.

Remember in the US we still have a bit more waiting to do before the 1hz meet the 25yr rule.
