I'm a little confused about the 7 pin mod. The previous owner installed the center locking diff. switch he bought from the local Toyota dealer.
So...do I need to pull the wire out of the connector or am I good to go or is the 7 pin mod a different mod besides the switch install on the dash??
(I'm thinking it's two different things but I'm not sure from all the reading I'm doing)

This mod allows you to have the cdl unlocked while in low range. Before this mod, the cdl is always locked in low range.

2 different items - respective of each other...

Explanation:

From Historic CDan Thread:

" Remove the dead pedal and the left front sill plate. In the left kick panel you will find a Silver metal box. That is the ABS ECU. Remove it, and behind you will find a black plastic relay about the size of a cigarette pack. It says "transmission control relay" on it. That's what you are after. The EWD calls it the "center diff lock relay", same thing. Unplug the harness from it and take a terminal pick and remove the black wire with blue tracer from pin#7. Insulate the bare terminal to suit and then put everything else back where you found it. If you have the low 4 position switch at the transfer case unplugged, crawl under there and reconnect that as well.
What you have just accomplished is you have interrupted the signal from the transfer case that tells the lock ECU that you went to low range but you are still sending a signal to the transmission ECU telling it that you ARE in low range. Therefore the transmission will shift in the correct low range pattern. In addition you now have true manual control over center diff locking. It only locks when you tell it to without regard to transfer range selection.

The switch gives you the ability to lock the center diff in Hi-Range, which makes a difference in snow and mud where momentum is key

The 7-pin mod lets you unlock the center diff in Lo-Range, which allows you to make tight turns that would otherwise load up the driveline with unnecessary stress "

All here - Just have to look for it.

Best,

Okay so when it's in low the center diff automatically locks and causes binding when turning so you mod the wire to unlock it in low with via the dash switch?

Yes. You control when it locks completely.
