So I was a little unmotivated to do the 7pin and gave my self a timed challenged. Said to myself, "SElf 7pin, in 7minutes start to finish" Minus an interuption from Rogersfj40 on the phone I did the whole thing in just under 10min, with time to double check (9min 30sec). Looking forward to using it.
Sure it could be done in 7min, but that will have to be another day.

So, I guess you cut the wire then as opposed to removing it fom the connector body? :D

My leisurely approach:

1) Review factory wiring diagram. Ascertain the function of the "pin 7" wiring according the logic implicit in the diff locking control design and confirm for myself the reasonableness of the modification.

2) Find and separate appropriate connector.

3) Remove pin from connector without damage to pin, wiring, or connector.

4) Verify expected operation of center diff lock.

5) Insulate and label the removed pin as to function and reason for removal. This is to benefit the next guy, if there ever is one, when he is examining the wiring.

6) Button up.

No CDan cutting business here. Wire was removed and preserved properly and cleanly. Checked it all to make sure it works.

It took me at least 7 minutes just to get my fat fingers to get the fricken connector off the module, and I knew what I was doing! :flipoff2:

any time that i can help

I guess some of us perform better under pressure, not to mention know what to do with our hands in tight situations. :flipoff2:

7 n' 7

Ok, during lunch I figured I'd give it a shot in our 95 degree shop... Under 7min for it all, including plugging the connector back into the Tranfer Case.

My trick? I left both computers in the truck, just pulled both grey connectors off the ABS computer and moved the harnesses out of the way, reached behind and pulled the 7pin plug out of the diff relay. Did the 1 min surgery, put all 3 plugs back in.

My assessment of CruiserDan's excellent research and writeup? It's tight to do it with ABS computer in place, but mucho faster = exacty 1 screw to R&R.

NICE

Wow!! I'm impressed that you guys were able to do this so fast. What's your real job? Gone in 60 seconds?? I did this mod today, off and on in some quick breaks at work. It took over 7 min. just to get the dead pedal, brown plastic cover pulled out, and then another 7 min. just to get the 4 screws out that held the silver computer box. Someone had these so tight, I had to get a right angled screwdriver so I could get some leverage to get them loose. I pulled the plug from Trans black box, but it took a long time, and many different tools before I was able to get the plastic lock opened in the plug so I could pull the wire out. This was the most difficult part for me. I got the wire pulled and put everything back, hoping I had the right wire. I was going to test it later after work but kept the tools in the truck just in case. It seems to work as described in Dan's instructions in this sites Tech Link's, so guess I picked the right wire. I did some quick circles in a grassy field, and the truck does turn tighter radius with center diff OFF. You have to go pretty fast for low to kick out of low. Not sure if I'll like that as well or not.
So what would happen if you were to unplug the transfer case wire after you've done the pin 7 mod??

The transmission would always shift in the high-range mode regardless of the transfer case range selected.
