I'm trying to install a dual DIN 7 inch screen head unit (with the motorized fold out face) in my 2000 and I'm having clearance problems. I've trimed the top of the bezel by it is still hitting. I have used the stock stereo brackets and there really isn't room to move them on the aftermarket unit. Is this a common problem when installing the 7 inch screens and should I sell it and and go with the smaller 6.2" screen that doesn't fold? I was so busy installing the back up camera and wiring everything else, that I didn't really check clearance until the end.

Loud had a custom bezel installed in his LX. I have a LC. It looks like davegonz had to trim his bezel, but I can't really tell in the pic he posted below in the other thread.

It looks like the smaller screens without the flip out face dont have an issue.
I take some pics at lunch.:steer:

The best I could do
The top has been trimmed a good bit but still needs a little more

In this pic, you can see that the bottom cant go all the way in and its hitting on the top as well

I've seen quite a few 2xDIN units installed (installed a couple myself) and they have all fit with no interference or trimming. All have been name brand units, Pioneer, Alpine, Kenwood and Sony. Check the position of the radio brackets on the unit and maybe give it some "english".

A note to others who might read this, an LX 470 has a larger opening and sets the unit farther back in dash than an LC. So to retrofit an LX you need to have a custom trim piece to close up the gap (like LoudLX). If you are doing a "three dial" conversion in an LX (Like Lexi4Darin) you need to order LC radio brackets to position the head unit forward in the mount.

What brand and type is this one?

I think any other name brand unit will work... even in 7".

All... I'm getting ready to install a Pioneer AVH 4300P with back up cam... (and brake bypass). Does anyone have recommendations for the optimal camera mounting location?
I've considered in that recessed area between the rear license plate lights on the back hatch...???

give me a shout if you know.

just an ebay special. I have no desire to spend a bunch on car stereo anymore and the namebrands will cost 3x as much for similar features. I use my DroidX for navigation, so I really wanted a indash DVD player with blutooth phone/stereo capability.

I picked up this model and will sell the other one on craigslist/ebay to recoup most of the money back. I had a feeling that the rotating screen was going to be a problem and this works better because it has a volume knob. :grinpimp:

this is where I put mine... I still need to machine up a different spacer for more down angle to see the hitch.. but it works...

"Optimal" is a matter of personal preference, combined with how much work you want to do and what accessories (i.e. rear bumper) you may add in the future. I put mine on the lower edge of the liftgate between the lic plate lights. Great camera angle, pain to install. Hosed if I ever mount a spare on a rear bumper...

:meh:

Mine is mounted here:

It is just temporary until I Build my bumper w/ swing out. Then it will go on top of that. The only complaint on this spot that it puts out glare at night and I sometimes bump my head on it when I am playing in the back.

pioneer head units have seemed to fit pretty easily.

Maybe it's just me, but if I'm going to 'invest' in a nice head unit then it's going to be a Kenwood so that I get the Garmin and have the ability to load topos. Or do other brands have the same capability?
