I do like Tim's mic holder, I think it's a great and practical idea, I used it numerous times but ultimately I did not like the mic stuck on my chest! Just personal preference!
Btw, I never said I hate Tool!!!

Just swapped out my 6 year old 2nd battery for a new Marine, Deep Cycle option...ARB fridge and HAM radio are happy again and running "green"...no red lights coming on my fridge any more! Yeah!

I just bought a Midland 75-822 (handheld cb) from Amazon. I tried getting it all setup to bring on the trip and I am not getting any reception. Only reception I am getting is the NOAA weather channel. Little frustrated. I know it is better than not having any form of communication however not sure what to do at this point.

Any suggestions? Will I get reception when I am on the trail with everyone else?

I am headed up on Thursday. Will need to find a place to camp Thursday night. Does anyone know of either paid camping spots or dispersed camping near Silverton. The only camping I know of is Near Telluride. Thanks!

Get closer to a highway and try channels 9, 14 etc.... I live on a hilltop and I was able to hear truckers chatting, but not very clear, the closer I got to the interstate the better it was....one the trail we have assigned channels for each group, I didn't tune my antenna and I was just fine hearing our entire group.

What do you mean by find a place to camp? The main camp spot WILL be available thursday!

may of us will be at the HIH6 Camp site on Thursday midday, its available to us then, IIRC somebody said they might be available on Weds.

I thought it would start Friday. That's great. One less thing to plan. Thanks

^^ Most folks arrive Wednesday or Thursday. Camp will be busy Thursday night as we'll have people arriving throughout the night and into the early morning hours on Friday. We will be running trails starting early on Friday morning. We have the location starting on Thursday through Sunday night (we need to be gone by mid-day on Monday).

I have that same radio with a firestick and I was fine last year. No tuning or anything. Just bought a cable on amazon and hooked it up. Worked well for how close we stay.

I decided to buy a hi-lift before the trip for peace of mind while on the 28 hour drive to Colorado. I'll post my experience here since the purchase was driven by the event.

They're not a vendor here, but I just called 4wheelparts to ask about a military discount. Their prices for everything I wanted beat Amazon by a few dollars before a discount. The guy I spoke with checked different discounts on each piece I wanted to get me the best pricing. He was going to throw in a free hat, but they were out. He then mentioned a free shirt, but was out of my size. He then tells me "don't worry I'm going to throw in something cool for you, thanks for your service"

This isn't the first time I've ordered from them and also isn't the first time I've gotten awesome service from their phone reps.

It might be time to have a service run at HIH. We have lots of former and current military attending each year. Think American flags and branch of service flags...... I'll be hoisting the eagle, globe and anchor to celebrate my beloved Marine Corps. You Air Force guys can bring soda pop and stuffed animals if you need. It might get scary.

I'll plan that for HIH7.

Ok, time to get out of this place and into that crisp mountain air!

Don't hate because we were/are smart enough to know the good branch to join. ;)
