'69 and highway speed

The owner's manual for my 1974 says top speed is 63mph.

I had my 2F (from a '75) rebuilt 3 years ago. Since then I've put 9000 miles on it having driven mostly 50 - 62 mph. Once or three times hit 70+ but I don't want to do that much. It's stock except for a MAF header and 31" tires.

I notice a major difference in engine strain and gas mileage with a headwind vs. a tailwind though.

When I got it, back in the early Eighties, I would routinely run it at 70, 75, sometimes 80 mph on the Gulf freeway, but I was young and a bit reckless...

Took mine on a short interstate trip today for the first time. hit about 61 on the speedo running 35's. 1 finger on the wheel and it tracked perfectly straight.

I had a '68 with stock motor and 3 speed on the column. It had 32" tires and it would do 75. I now have a '78 with a 350 chevy and a four speed and I won't take it over 60 mph without it feeling like I'm driving in an earthquake. It's much nicer at about 55...

On my 82 fj40 I'm doing 70 to 80 mph on a stock 2F. It's bloody scary but needs to be done sometimes when I'm late to a meet.
