'67 FJ40: is this a good deal or not?

Someone beat you to the buy-and-flip. If those miles were original, 5k was a steal even in these times.

Wait and see I guess. I would've loved to have owned it even for a little while, to tinker and fuss and wheel my kids to the ice-cream store. I wasn't convinced it'd be easy to get my money back out of it if the economy continued downhill. Fortunately, I was dissuaded from even thinking about "flipping" it for the sake of a brief thrill.

Add "sushi-getter" and you just described the life of my fj40. :D

I am thinking you'd have to work her pretty hard to get those springs sagging like that in 30k miles. soooooo 130k? 230k?

IMHO the things that the owner might think are working for it ---like low mileage claims and the shiny paint are actually working against it

There's no way this is a 130K or 230K mileage cruiser. As Dusty 66 stated it has the original tires seat cover and seat belts. The guy also stated the paint job was bad. I do disagree with him saying only has surface rust. The driver's rear corner clearly shows rust thru from the back. Anybody who has had an FJ40 should be able to tell that. I would of also posted some pictures of the floor with out mats covering if they were great shape. He may have used this to haul heavy stuff around the farm and the floors are ruff. Might also explain why the springs are sagging in the rear.

I won't feel to bad about passing on this one. In my opinion isn't worth the 5.6K someone has bid on it. Even at that the guy who bought it won't be really making out if he paid 5K for it. With the work he put into it and the cost to sell it on ebay he will be lucky to break even. In todays economy I won't buy anything you think you might have to sell later and count on even breaking even. Just isn't worth the risk when you have a family to worry about.

Just my two cents:cheers:

Bidding ended at $6k, reserve not met, this guy thought he had something valuable. Sad for him, he's stuck with something he probably doesn't need or know much about. Wish I were stuck with it, but then I don't have $5k burning a hole in my pocket or a proper place to keep it.
