adjusted my brakes last night and put it in 4-low to keep it from rolling, this morning went to take it out and the bolt that goes into the pass. side of the block that hold the piece that rotates the engage and disengage 4wd snapped in half. Anyone ever have this happen and how do i get the rest of the bolt out to replace that piece?

diagram parts 24,26, and 27

I don't know what you are looking at.

Depending on how deep the bolt is, I can somethings put a nut over the broken bolt and weld it to the botl, I then back the bolt out.

I have done this many time on 2F valve covers.

Would it at all be possible to move the fixed part of the linkage forward from the red circle to the green circled hole, if I extend and readjust my linkages. That is if I can't get the rest of the bolt out of the original location?

Note: This is an old picture of before my recent rebuild.

I had it happen to me in 68 shortly after I bought it in 1974. It wasn't threaded all the way in and snapped off going down a steep hill in first gear low range. Popped into neutral. I found out the brakes weren't working that well either. That a motor mount that the treads is in to, just replace both pieces. I should have extras of both.

Same here, I should have extras as well even though I think you just need a bolt. An easy out should work well, might try welding a nut to it if any is sticking out at all. Place nut on top of bolt and weld through hole giving it a new head, new head and heat usually makes them come right out. Worst case is drill out and re tap.

One thing I've had success with before is to use a cold chisel and tap around the edge slowly turning it out. You may not have enough room to do that. Otherwise be glad the fj40 fenders are easy to remove. It could be a lot worse!

I just broke my bell crank

I would take your time and just remove the motor mount Its not hard, just support the engine under the oil pan,

drill and easy out it, IMHO Its better than getting under there with a welder or a drill save your self from burns and frustration. good luck

I had to change the motor mount on my 66 after the body was on I discovered Installed the wrong motor mount :bang:

I was able to rig it with a grade 8 bolt. I put a bolt with a smooth part at near the head and spaced with washers and another nut then tightened it until the nut hit the mount. readjusted my linkages and have 4wd again. I will test it out hunting tomorrow, but will also buy a new mount and bolt for a spare if this one goes.

Buy? BUY? Pay attention Lee. People are offering you another mount for FREE. And if they're not, I AM. Just pay for the ride.;)

IMO, there is no 'other' place to relocate this to that will work in the long term.

Best
