Yes, I will do that. It's only attached with 1 screw. Maybe the guy did it to be different.

greetings ... just a quick question . is there any conversion to power steering for a 66

66rox, Welcome! Go to the top of this thread and use the "search" function. Type in power steering conversion, sit back and enjoy for the next few days.....Oh, the official welcome..:flipoff2: no disrespect, just the welcome. Now post a pic of your rig.

Yea cool rig.welcome to the madness. You are in the right hands here, lots of help on here; read.search,read,repeat..Do you have a FSM or at least a Haynes manual yet? Lots to learn, but you will get it! Looks like it came with lots of stuff!

Click on club houses at the top of this screen from there go to north west region and then try battle born cruisers of northern nevada. maybe somebody there could give you a hand.

As the other Cruiser Heads said Welcome to the insanity and as others said; I bet your transfer case popped into neutral. Even with no clutch pedal pressure you should be able to move because the clutch master actually disengages your clutch. I was wheeling one day and I thought I broke something or lost the clutch entirely and after playing with the transfer shifter I found it was in neutral and no go go. Popped it back in gear and blast off! If you are missing parts then it was a guessing game for your mech I'm sure. These trucks are very simple once you learn how they function and will very seldom if ever leave you stranded once again you learn all the little tricks. Good luck and have fun with it and make sure your wallet is thick lol!:steer:Rob

Capgun,
that "boot looking thing" is your slave cylinder for the clutch. It is often suggested that when replacing it you also replace the master cylinder as they tend to go "first one and then the other". Might as well get some replacements and throw them both on at the same time. Nice looking cruiser by the way, you are going to have lots of fun !!

very cool rig, it is pretty inexpensive to replace the Master and slave at one time, then you know it's good to go and you only have to bleed it once. I also think the transfer case slipped into neutral when you lost your clutch. good luck and welcome to the adventure! -Matt

Well, thank you all for the responses! You guys are quick!

I sort of have a plan now. YES, I need a manual, Haynes is going to have to do. As I'm sure the other one someone mentioned above, is probably 10 times better, it costs a lot more as well I'm assuming. (the Volkswagen ones are the same way)

I did an inquiry into the clutch master cyl. and slave. Seems the regular parts stores I called, can get the slave cyl. but no master. (I know what most of you are thinking, "Why the hell did you call a regular parts store?" And rightfully so) But I have friends who can get me parts at commercial account prices there, so why not? LOL
$16.78 for slave, but no master. So, looks like I'll have to get that online somewhere.

Okay digressing back to my plan. Going to call a friend, have him come take the carb off, re-build it for me, in the mean time I can get a throttle cable somewhere, then have him put it back on, and install the new throttle cable. I figure I should do this first, because of what I said about the idle being way too high, with the mickey mouse setup it has now. At the same time I'll have him help me with installing the new master and slave cyl. So by this time, I should be able to fire it, and drive it the 40 yards up the street to my house.

I contacted the person I bought it from, and told him about all the missing lower linkage to the transfer case. He is very cool, and said he'd go with me through all his parts, and if we can't find the setup, he'll let me scavenge one off of the 14 or so cruisers he has in his back yard. This is supposed to happen on wednesday. I'll keep you posted if you care to read on.

BTW he has a rust and accident free survivor early 60's intl. scout back there too, running great. I'm going to see if I can buy that as well in the near future. :)

PS: What have I gotten myself into? ;p

You've gotten yourself into a good bunch of FUN !! and probably a good bunch of money.

The link below will help you greatly. It takes awhile but will be worth your time. There are also many places to order your goodies from listed in the first half:

From the same page mentioned above here is a link for the 1966 engine FSM:

The clutch repairs may be done with help from this link from the same page mentioned above. It is in the chassis manual:

Thanks to Trollhole for the thread and if I were you, I'd get a new ream of paper in my printer and print those babies up for future reference !!

Hey thank you Moss, much appreciated. I'm trying to find the best deal on the master and slave combo, so thanks again!

Get her home yet? Slave is avaiable almost anywhere....Think a 69 will work...seeing as alot of parts dealers only go back that far (easly). you dont have to get both right away....seeing there not sold as sets....get what you know you need (slave) then replace master later...think I got my master at RockAuto.com

No, IN2, LOL. This is turning into a nightmare for me. Guy that sold it to me, seemed to be comatose when I went there to see if I can get the linkage. Very unresponsive, thought about checking his pulse to see if he was actually still alive. Very different then when he was on the phone. So, no linkage. Would help if I knew what all I needed, or be cble to identify the parts I need. It's like someone had stripped it while there at one time, to put it on another one. So, now talking to a 4X4 shop here in town on converting to floor shift on transfer case. Will go that route probably, since I'm stuck on getting the original linkage.

Still trying to pin my friend down to come up and take off carb, and replace the slave for me. I know he's busy with a lot of things, so he gets a pass, lol. Sucks also, because I still don't know even after the slave is replaced, getting pressure back, it will even go into gear? We shall see...

I can throw a rock to where it's sitting, yet I can't get it going. Not nearly enough experience with these things, ugh.....

better start learning how to work on it yourself. If you post up a pic of the t-case linkage from underneath, I bet someone could tell you how to hook it up so you can get it moving again. Clutch master and slave are not hard to replace.

4spd transfer case
#45 is mounted to top of transfer case (for referance)

Well that's just it SUB, there's nothing to take a picture of. I guess I can take a picture of what I do have, that's on the firewall, and seems to go down a ways, but that's about it. I will send a link to show you what "I think" is missing.

TRANSFER LEVER & SHIFT ROD. Fits: 1969 TOYOTA LAND CRUISER 3900CC:F TYPE | ToyotaPartsOverstock.com

Though this seems to be a floor shifter, the parts I believe that are missing, are 36351 36339 36362 and all the hardware in-between.

Spoke to my one and only local 4x4 shop, and they told me the original, is, "Archaic", and "Nearly impossible to find parts for." So that's when he recommended a floor shift. He said he's get back to me with a quote on the job. Still waiting...

FJ404, I live in Reno NV. I haven't tried talking to the local rock crawler crew here, but, this is 4x4 heaven. Rubicon is about 50 minutes drive from my house.

Capgun, post pictures of what you have. I have all the parts for my 66 laying around, and can try to get pictures of what you might be missing. If the seller seemed to be OK with you coming over to get the missing parts, Get pictures of what you are missing, and go get the parts.

Here's what to get pictures of:
Dash where the T-case shift handle is (or should be)
Pass-side firewall in the engine compartment
Base of the firewall/frame/bellhousing area at the pass-front corner of the tub
T-case range selector area.

Cool TY IN2! At least now I know what the parts are that I need.

Heriloom, it seemed that way on the phone, but then when I got there, as I stated above, the guy seemed diss-interested and not wanting to give, or help me even identify the parts anymore. He was more involved with someone else that was there moving stuff. So he is not going to help me. He flaked. I will get those pictures today and put them up, TY for helping.
