66' FJ 40 questions, might be a little long

Okay, got the pics of what I have. BTW, the bracket on the firewall is missing the pin as you can see, and also looks bent compared to the other ones I've seen.

Everything from the last picture, on back to the transfer case is what is missing.

One more thing. Got a guy coming up to pull off the carb, take it home and rebuilding it. I need to get a throttle cable, as the one I have is frayed and old. Kragen, or O'rielly, or one of the other regular parts stores in town says I can bring it in, and they can make one, or cut one down. Somehow, I think that this is going to be waste of my time, as I will probably have to go with one of the kits I've seen for around $90.00, unless someone has a link that's cheaper, or other suggestion? All are welcome, as you know by now, lol. Again, thanks to all who have read, and participated, you've helped me a lot so far. ^^

Let's see if I have the right pics here:

You need this linkage from the lower pivot to the T-case

Then you need this linkage for the T-case range shifter

Then you need to hook up the rod going through the dash to the upper pivot. Assembled, the pieces might look like this (except in your vehicle)

I hope the picture links work for you.

Well I can get a pair of vice grips, and tug on the notch piece.

I see now Heirloom! Yeah! Those are the exact pieces I need, so now, where do I get them? LOL

That's going to be the hard part I think.

Heirloom, TYVM, that is a perfect, perfect, setup picture.

To get home, I will post pics of the range selector locations:

High range
IMG_20111021_160442.jpg

Shift rod is pushing the selector toward the back of the vehicle.

Neutral

Low range
IMG_20111021_160458.jpg

Shift rod pulls the selector toward the front of the vehicle.

P.S. What carburetor do you have? My 66 has throttle linkage, no cable.

If I were you, I'd go back to the seller's house at night with a couple 17mm wrenches, 14mm wrenches, 12mm wrenches, some vise grips, some PB Blaster, and a hammer. He did tell you he would let you have the parts. You also said he has a bunch of old cruisers.

If you find one factory steelie in 16x5.5 (not 15) riveted with hubcap clips, I'll consider it a finder's fee.;)

If you want to buy; there are online auctions, junk-yards, TLC specialists, etc.

Here's a place that sells used parts:FJ40 & FJ45 Parts Landcruiser Parts The one you need is not listed, but you can call or email them. Send a picture link from the thread of the parts you need. Ask for associated hardware as well. My pics do not show the necessary hardware.

Hey Capgun, go to "Pistorman's 1970 fj40 build" check out post # 273 and 274, there is a couple of good shots of the under hood linkage. Don't know if yours is the same or not. (sorry I don't know how to "link" the post). Hope it helps.

TY Skid, I will check it out.

LMAO Heirloom, funny my brother and I had that same idea as soon as you put up the photos :)
I will call those people, and see what I can find. Thanks again for those photos, and the new ones showing the transfer case shift locations. You going above and beyond is appreciated greatly. I'll keep my eyes peeled for that rim tonight, LOL. But seriously I would like to help out, and if I can find one around while I'm looking for the linkage, I'll shoot you an email or in the forum. Seems my local 4X shop that I called twice about the floor shift mod, never called back to give me a quote. Typical...

IN2, yeah, I don't know much about that setup, meaning if it's a good deal or not, but I believe you if you say it's priced too high. I really don't want to spend that money if I don't have to.

Heir, it's a Weber, but not sure which one, I think it's a 4 barrel setup. I was told today by a LC parts place that NP I can just have one cut from a local parts place.

Not likely. That wheel is non-US spec, from my understanding.

The floor shift mod is on the page I linked. It would basically make your 66 like a late 72 or 73 with a 3-speed floor shift. There is a conversion kit for the T-case, and another floor shift conversion for the trans. I like the dash/column set up, if only for uniqueness and period-correctness. In your case, the missing parts are probably going to be less expensive than a conversion.

That being said, after having some driving time with a floor-shifted late 72, I understand the motivation to convert.

My guess: either a 32/36 or a 38. Both are 2-barrel. A 4-bbl would be unlikely for an engine like the F motors. This is a good Weber diagram and parts resource:Weber Carburetor Free Schematics Exploded Views

You should poke around the 2 NV club forums on mud.
Clubhouse scroll down to the west section.
Gotta be some cruiser guys local to you that could help out/have parts!
My 69 was converted to floor shifters so I cant be of to much more help!
