So how are you guys getting that huge military wrap of the 62 spring to fit into the 40 hanger??

I was thinking about taking the wrap side put it into a Machine vice and squish it down a bit... any thoughts on that?

Change your hanger mounts.

Any thing else?

I know some of you did it without changing hangers..

I want the mil-wrap on the hanger side so please don't say put it on the shackle side..

i made a new hanger.

i also added a gusset to the top of this mount

get with Dan @ Ruff Stuff.
he has what you need.

60s in 40 hanger will not work

I might just call Dan, I like the 60 springs for the length and the bigger bushings...

Plus, I already tore them apart re-drilled the main leaf, and am ready to wire wheel them, paint them , and hang em..

I might as well get the proper rear hanger from Dan too...

My wife hates me right now... hehehe

I have done this a few times (all on trail trucks) and it is very easy and works well. I have 62 rears on my truck with a few leafs removed and I love them. All I did was heat the hangers with a torch and just bend them a little. You can use the OME fj40 bushings in 60 or 62 springs and all of the bushing IDs and ODs are correct. They are also WAY easier to find than 55 rears and often in much better shape.

I also weld the hangers to the frame just to reinforce the factory rivets.

I know its tight and I know it rubs a little but not enough in my opinion to matter especialy on a trail truck.

Hi All:

I dunno about stock Toyota 60/62 Series rear springs but the Old Man Emu (OME) replacement (lift) springs fit the stock 40 Series fixed spring mount with just a little bit of coaxing.

Regards,

Alan

Just to clarify, 60 series springs will not fit in earlier 40 series hangers. Later 40's 1980+ hangers and shackles are the same width as 60 series. I have 60 springs in my 40 with no massaging necessary, except of course flipping the rear shackle hanger:o

But... no... you're screwed... they won't fit. Just piling on, it looked like fun to restate what has already been said yet another time. Do you get it yet? It won't work!!! geez! :grinpimp:

My truck is a 71 and the picture above is of a 76.....geez!

Like I said, I'm only trying to clarify. I've read through hundreds of 40 threads that state this or that won't fit. I'm merely throwing this in so someone with a later model FJ40 doesn't get mislead.
That is all.
Cheers-

first off, i have the proper bushings that WILL, (i already tested it) and does fit BETWEEN the hangers..

My question was directly related with the Military wrap, NOT the width of the springs...

But thanks for piling on as you said.. :flipoff2:
