I used the solonoids from a early '90 4-Runner they plugged right in just changed brackets but my problem was not the solonoids but the relay.

So they didn't fit in the stock mounting bracket? You wouldn't happen to have a part # would you?

OK, here are some pics of original and new "non-usa" Toyota solenoids.

Can anyone, especially "non-usa" Cruiser owners help me with this?
Which is the "always-on" 4-Lo? Do yours have the ports pointed toward the right side of the vehicle? Or are they flipped 180? And the bracket?

Is there a chance to see a pic of how yours are installed, if you have the same as these?

Is there anything to know before I splice these in, i.e. polarity etc.? Any chance of frying them if I get it wrong? Or will they only operate backwards?

thanks for any help.

I just discovered that my FSM 36262E has these solenoids pictured, with the non-USA plug etc..

tcb, no the solonoids would not bolt in the stock 4Runner bracket I took them out of the 4Runner bracket and put them in my stock bracket :D

Do you want the part # for the relay ?

I don't quite understand what you are saying, do the solenoids fit in your cruisers brackets or did you have to get the entire assembly from the 4runner?

JBBenson, and anyone else the NAPA part # for the relay is AR361

tcb, sorry to confuse you I took the solonoids from the 4Runner and put them in the landcruiser bracket

Hope this helps,

I have posted about this on the "Truck Tech" section to see if anyone can provide a part number or a function for the solenoids so I can check with my parts guy to see if this option is still available.

I recieved the solenoids off the top of the 22re engine today. The plugs are the same. One Brown, One blue, perfect fit.

Part numbers are - 90910-12085 for the Blue & 90910-12084 for the Brown

Unfortunately, they aren't cheapies from the dealer... I believe the quote was $86 for the Brown and $50something for the Blue. However, with all the 22RE vehicles on the road it shouldn't be hard to find them.

Only draw back is that the metal mounting brackets aren't the same. So if anyone can offer tips on how to remove the FJ62 solenoids from their metal mounting cases without messing the cases up beyond repair, please share the tips. Because I mangled the hell out of the brackets getting the 22re solenoids out of their cases.

There are two screws holding the solenoids to the metal bracket. These screws are accessible from the back if you remove the entire metal bracket . There is a 12 mm bolt holding it to the firewall.

When hooking up the new solenoids, (on a US model) the bottom solenoid is the 2WD one, and should have power all the time. The top one gets power as soon as the 4WD button is depressed (62 of course)

My FSM 36262E page TF-36 shows non-US solenoids, that have the 2WD on the top. Made me crazy for a while, but it all works. (I installed non-US solenoids, but was following US vacuum routing).

Be careful when testing for polarity, as the little sockets are close together, and I accidentally shorted the circuit. (FYI circuit goes through the gauge fuse in 1988 62's, at least in my 07-88 '62)

I confirmed that 4WD was working by crawling under the truck to do the spin test. Its all good. Just remember to tag everything before cutting wires. But you know that already....

I shouldn't have to cut any wires.. these are direct plug ins to the existing female connectors on the wiring harness. I need to put the actual 22re solenoids into the cases that screw into the mounting bracket on the firewall. They are held in by 4 sets of prongs on each corner and I mangled the cases for my new solenoids while getting them out.

Does this make any sense?

Yeah, I think you bent back the prongs holding the solenoid to the small mounting plate, right? I guess they are only made to go together, not come apart.

Not sure how to fix it, maybe just use some fat rubber bands to hold the solenoids to the old bracket. Or zip ties and some insulating rubber .

Could also just tape them with gaffer tape, or some other tape with fabric matrix.

Yeah, to get the new solenoids out of their bracket. I'll have to remeber to grab some zip ties from the office tomorrow and ghetto it back together if I can't get the originals out of their brackets with less problems.

Uh, rather than "McGyvering" in your words, the wiring harness by cutting off one connector and crimping on two female spade connectors that would connect to a new $15 OEM solenoid that fits the stock 62 mounting bracket, you'd rather have your used "plug and play" solenoid duct taped to the mounting bracket?
I don't get it.

Yeah, well I've got them now.... I was almost to the point of submission with the cutting of the wiring harness... then I found these that plug in.... When life gives you lemons...

From the 3FE files:
Toyota Celica idle up solenoid part # 88690 2B340 about $15 from C Dan or any Toy dealer for a couple of bucks more. Plug and play and I've done it myself - it works fine with only the need to replace the 62's electrical connectors with some female spade lugs to fit the new solenoid's pins.

Does anyone know, will this Celica solenoid work for both FJ62 solenoids or just one?

If I understand correctly the top / blue one is 4WD engage and the bottom / brown one is 2WD.
