'62 FJ45 cab (RHD - Aust)

Fenders will fit from other years. Turn signals are round with clear lenses. The fender aprons should not have lights. Bibs are the same, with the parking lights but with clear lenses.

Toyota still stocks the bib lights and the turn signal assemblies, but only with amber lenses. Clear lenses are available for the bib lights, but much more costly. The tail lights are about the same size as the bib lights and seem to be hard to come by. The next two sizes (3.5" and 4.25" IIRC) up look right to anybody but an expert and are available new.

I suspect the shorty three piece running boards will be nearly impossible to find as well.

:hhmm: I wondered about availability of the clear lenses. I had seen the amber bib lights for sale but not the clear ones. My '67 needs new clear ones too. Looks like it is going to cost me double.

I think the tail lights will be different for Aust trucks. Our 40s tail lights are different to USA 40s to. I havn't given the rear much thought yet and the only very early 45 utes I have seen pics of over here have a flat top bed and different lights. I think I wan't to try for a style side bed like your SWB.

The running boards could be fabbed up perhaps....

Thanks Aussie. That first pic is gold right there and has answered a bunch of questions.

Do you know if that manual you have is specifically for the Australian market or just general?

And do you know if that bed/tray illustrated was ever used on Australian 45s?

Lup :)

The manul is a genrol one, notice the sketch is LH drive. I dont think they had trays. i also think we extended the chassis like the 25. west aussie has one and he has looked into them a lot

Cheers.

I didn't see the LHD!

I had read something in the last few days about the extended chassis on the Aust 45s. So that would make them longer than the SWB FJ45s they have in the USA then?

I'm still debating whether to stick it on a stock 40 chassis, fiddle with the mounts and call it good. OR, do the same with stock 45 chassis and call it good. OR, go the extra mile and stretch or shrink either one to what is 100% correct but more engineering as well.

I need to measure up my 40 chassis and see where things will sit. Probably be way to short for any sort of decent looking tray. I don't want it to look like just another of the SWB 40 ute conversions that you see. I could do a measure on my Troopy chassis too for a quick check. :hhmm:

I've got my SWB in the shop today. I know its the middle of the night over there, but if you have anything specific you need a measurement on or a pic of shoot me a PM and I can get it.

Thanks Gumby. Assuming your bed and wheelbase are stock and correct could you take a measurement on those? I'm getting some different measurements on things depending on what the source is and a first hand measure on a SWB 45 would set me straight with that one.

If you still have the truck handy that is. I have probably missed you at your shop by now.

Thanks again. :)

My bed was chopped as well as the frame behind the spring hangers. Wheel base might be a bit long from the shackle reversal. The axle looks forward of stock. I'm getting 103 3/4" (2635), but I don't have anyone to help hold the tape so it might be off a smidge.

I can get bed width and wheel well placement, but length is gonna be way off. Its actually wider than long now.

Right thanks Gumby. Looking at your rig again I can see how short the bed is now. Still like the look and would be happy with that! Did you chop the back for departure angle? Maybe I should read your whole 2short thread - I am guilty of reading the first couple of pages then the last couple - Nothing like a good before and after story!

Bonnet/hood: In good straight shape with surface rust.

Note the lack of mounting holes for windscreen stop rubbers and latches. The windscreen doesn't fold down on this one.

My 62 FJ40 was the same way until I added the hold downs and rubbers.

Hi The holes in dash tell me it was vacuum 4wd with hi low range on dash. The 62 I have has the rear diff in centre with the drive shaft at big angle from transfer case. I may have some of this stuff keep me posted. Cheers Fred

I have since seen a few pictures of 40s like yours with no holes either but with fold down windscreen hinges. I wonder what the thinking was. Still, the later 40s also had no bonnet/hood hardware for running with the windscrren down either. :hhmm:

Good to know Fred. I would be interested in what you have and also your knowledge of these early trucks in Aust. I am still taking stock of where to go from here and what I need. Correct looking dash and interior will be on the list. :)

Yep, I saw that one. Got some good pics!

My vote for the third mystery item is............................a cover plate on the right fender, that the sector shaft passes through? Did I win? John
