I had issues with my in/out temp gauge which looks identical to yours. Replaced the inside thermistor with another toyota used one and the thing was happy again. I actually find it somewhat useful. Nice to know when the temps are hitting freezing outside and it's time to watch for ice. Altimeter sucks...stuck my GPS suction cup to it..haha.

When you get a garmin I'll throw some maps your way...

My temp whizjammer is fairly dead. The numbers were barely visible when it was pitch black out, and the outside thermistor is missing.

There's a thread about connections on the circuit board, but didn't work on mine...And then I ran out of give a s***.

We have an old garmin nuvi, so yeah if I make it to a meeting I'll try to remind you to bring something so I can throw the maps on a data stick.

Haven't put that pot in yet. Been working, and it's been raining. :lol:
 
Installed the pot...seems to work like I'd hoped. At 10 on the dial I get about 10 seconds of glow at around 10c, and at 5 on dial around 6 seconds.


Now if my damn thermometer worked, this would be easier...:lol:

I'll mess with it in the am again when it's cold, but seems promising.

I stuck it in the empty dash hole so I can reach it. At some point hopefully I'll figure out a good #, and can replace it with a resistor hidden somewhere, and maybe a switch so I can get full glow if I want, otherwise just leave it in auto.

That knob is some nasa s***...:smokin:

Funny, a knob like that in a domestic diesel truck would usually indicate a power setting ranging from "thrifty" to "douche bag". In a cruiser its just to get the damn thing started. :steer:

Ahh, nothing fun or exciting. Just a couple spare 4.11 finespline turds, and an oilpan.

I did however hear a pretty cool story of two 45's being rescued from a quonset hut at an abandoned mine in the distant boonies. Even was a photo of a 45 hanging from a helicopter...

Apparently they'd sat for umpteen years, and had hardly any k's on them. :smokin:

do you use your glow system much? When I had my '61 it never came on above 0 deg and I never needed it. Thing started right up every time and use the fast idle to keep it running.
 
It starts fine without it, but it does run smoother with glow. That's why I'm doing the experiment with the pot, to trick the system to come on at higher temps.

seems to me, it should be giving the full glow at zero degrees, not barely coming on....


Working better now, had about 10 seconds at 1 degree, so I'm getting close.

Another exciting update....

seeing as it's been raining for the last year and a half and my 60 is somewhat less than waterproof, my carpets were rapidly turning into some sort of life form that I was worried was going to start breeding.

A dense, radiant musky aroma...quite repellant.


I did find a Japanese coin tho.

home despot had some thick ass rubber mats that due to a labeling error were on an sale... It's almost like somebody took the tag off and replaced it with one at a considerably lower price....can't imagine who would do such a thing...:hillbilly:

So yeah. Better. Even had a chunk left over for the "coffee table" :lol:

Nice work on the mats. Will serve you well if you ever do a deep water crossing and get water in the foot wells.

Saw a 61 when I passed through Duncan today around 4:30pm. Beat me through a light, and I lost it. Was a two tone lighter colored; I forget exactly as I was pretty tired. Might have been cream/blue or something like that.
 
Don't recognize the colour, but there's a few around here.

Best thing about these mats, is not hearing the carpet squelch when I get in. It was seriously nasty...and if a horse s***s in there, I can hose it out.

As for deep water...fawk that...there'd have to be somethng I reeeeaaaallly wanted on the other side of that stream. :lol:
 
Another riveting update...you can't turn away.


Power lock on my rear hatch stopped working a while back, considering the outside lock cylinder is completely fused inside, this was something of a pain in the ass.

So, if you have a 60 series with power locks, there are two relays in the side panel beside the washer bag, to deal with the weird ground switching business to get the lock solenoid to travel in two directions.

The top relay is installed right way up, and looks like new inside, and in Mr T's infinite wisdom, the bottom one is installed upside down, meaning it can fill up with any fluids that happen to be passing by.

Considering what a bitch it is to fill that washer bag without spilling, there's probably some washer fluid in a lot of those relays.

There's plenty of slack in the wiring to flip that bottom relay over so it doesn't act as a reservoir.

Mine was dirty as a frenchman inside, I'm kinda surprised it came back to life at all, but the solenoid is getting a whopping 22 volts now, instead of the 8 it was getting before, and the world rejoices at not having to see my glorious buttocks clambering over the back seat to reach the inside knob.
