G'day AussieKymbo, I have the Integrated version. It looks pretty much the same as the one you posted a picture of. I have 2 in fact. Both have the number 6337 cast into it.

The FOD that replaces the entire back half of the case is (obviously) intended for use in 81-later Cruisers with the split case and 19spline. The small planetary OD that goes on the rear PTO cover is used on the 10 spline and 16 spline trannies with one-piece case.

The split case FOD comes in 2 basic variants: 34mm or 38mm idler shaft. If your FOD was originally fitted to a 84-earlier split case w/ 34mm idler, and it's being moved to an 85-later transfer case with 38mm idler, then it will be necessary to swap over the matching front half of the transfer case as well.

Thanx Jim, That is handy to know. The second farey i have came off a previous 5 speed box that I traveled around Oz with. So it should have all the gears I need to replace to make it a good snug fit.
The previous box failed due to losing the 10mil bolt that holds the idler gear shaft in the transfer casing. :(
The idler gear shaft pulled back out of the transfer case, and the gear chewed out a hole in the casing in an instant.
This happened as I was coming up to the waters edge at Port Smith Western Australia. When I saw the oil flowing freely out of the box. I quickly jumped back in and having only reverse gear, left a snail track all the way back to the caravan park, a distance of about 500m.
Lesson learn t, don't ever remove silicon from anything if you didn't put it there.

Hey guys, I am in the process of having a look at a fairey I got today to go in my HJ47. It is defiantly a post 1980 split case type (came from a 60 series). Could I possibly also get a copy of this manual from one of you guys.

Hi guys.

I have the same transfer case but on a 4 speed that I fit to my hj45. I haven't towed heavy loads but used the overdrive in all kinds of up hill and off-road situations without any issues at all.

I just pulled mine apart because of a busted front output bearing, and thought I would do a full overhaul. I found that a standard transfer kit will have most bearings, seals and gaskets.

The main differences are the input shaft seal and bearing. The standard double acting seal is too small in od, and is impossible to find, so I used a single directional one and set up so that oil goes from transfer to gearbox. The bearing is also oversized, but is easily found at any bearing place (6309).

Obviously the bearings etc for the overdrive itself are not in the kit, but in my case they looked fine so I just re-used them.

My biggest problem is that I mixed up the gears and shims for the input shaft. I put them back the way I thought they were but my overdrive lever pops out of standard shift now. Sved, could I also get a co

Oops, accidentally hit reply button.

Sved, could I also get a copy of the manual. I'm hoping it will show me what I have done wrong.

I would like a copy of the manual for this if you still have it. I am also looking for a second one for parts for mine. If anyone has in of out there or parts/ whole units for sale please let me know.

Just a quick update, if you are having trouble with the overdrive dropping into neutral. The selector fork can actually be moved on the selector shaft. Simply remove the overdrive cover plate (with overdrive in neutral), loosen selector fork retaining bolt and re-centre the fork. It needs to be very precise, I found that even tightening the bolt without holding the fork steady was enough to put it back out of alignment. Check it in each position to ensure that it engages each gear by the same amount.

Did you get a copy?

Heya all,

I got a 4 speed gearbox with one of these overdrives and was wondering if anyone has a pdf copy of this overdrive model's manual they could send me.

Need to clear some doubts i have to clear up, before putting the gear box on my 40.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me on this.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I'm about to fit one of these overdrives to a BJ42LX. I'm using Mark's 44% reduction gears for low range and may need to machine a new input cluster to match the Fairey O/D to the Mark's idler gear.

Long story short, all of the input shaft will need to be disassembled, measured, etc.

Is it possible to get a copy of the installation manual sent to assist with the process?

Thanks in advance,

Mark.

Hey I'm sorry to bring this thread up from the grave but would it be possible to get a link for that manual? I don't know anything about these over drive units or how they work. Thank you

I have a original manual ''fairey overdrive for toyota landcruiser'' .
The manualnumber is 6810.Issue 3/84
It discribes how to replace the backpart of the transfercase and replace it with the fairey transfer backpart.
This can be done on 4speed and 5 speed gearboxes in 40 and 60 series.
Overdrive ratio is 078:1
Is this what you are looking for?

Many many moons ago i had this installed on a '84 BJ42 5 speed.
This created like you said 10 forward gears (HI and Lo) and two reverse.

If i remember correctly, it created the effect, that if you activated the overdrive between say 2nd and 3rd gear you ended up with a higher endratio then the standard 3rd gear.:)

Let me know if it is what you are looking for then i can sent you a copy.
Any chance of getting a copy of the overdrive manual
Thanks Dave

PM me your Mail address .
I will send you a copy.
