60 Rear Bumper build!

Here's a cross sectional view of your bumper. The gusset goes inside:

OK...I think I get it now!
I was thining of some thing completely different, in that the gusseting you guyz were talking about would be from the vantage point ABOVE the bumper like you had pictured before!
So the way youre illustrating is to run diagonal gussets within the shell of the bumber, top to bottom to give more re enforcement to the shell from compression forces (i.e. if the rear of the rig/ bumper landed on a rock)...correct?
Diagonal would be better than vertical you think?

on the reciever section ; I would start with a 2" blank tube and flush that thing to the face of the bumper , Kinda like 4x4 labs.
No need for that extra ring in the end ( looks kinda zeek) when the end is flush The bumper shell will act as the reinforcing ring.

The internal gussets Ali sketched will add a lot of strength for very little weight.
I was thinking about cross braces made out of U Channel

Agree with Ken; if you're gonna flush the receiver tube, then just go all the way like 4x4Lab's design and dump the ring. Good idea Ken.

If you look at the first pic I drew, I'm still adding horizontal gussets to other places as well for triangulation of the whole assembly. If you're gonna yank yourself out using one of the shackles, then the triangulation will keep the whole things square and relieve the strain on the chassis IMHO.

The reason I suggested u-channel was to distribute the forces further away from the intersections the major components than the gussets. Which method to use depends on how much room there is.

I think I have some thing figured out for this extravaganza, but Id like for you to come take a look at it since youre close by.

Thats a good idea choppin the ring off.
I thought that Id need that for some reason, but that would actually HELP with the pin access cuz it would give more space to access it. I could move the assy back a bit.

Ill post up some pics tomorrow of what I did today as far as re enforcement...I thought it would be pretty slick.

So here is the HOT idea that I came up with yesterday!
Ill add some additional triangulated gussets of course, but you get the basic idea!

Lemme know what you think...my feeling wont get hurt!

Ill be doing this to BOTH sides of course!

Im planning on that, but its a touchy spot because of the pin location!
Its gonna have to go on TOP of the square stock for the reciever to be able to access the pin and the cotter pin.

FYI: Make your own hitch (you can buy solid blank material from the local trailer fabbers) and then you can move the pin back a little farther so that it is a bit easier to access. If you need to use my drill press your welcome to...

That's what I did on mine...needed a custom length so I built my own. For a little extra measure of safety since my MM175 doesn't have enough juice for the kind of penetration I wanted on this piece I let Sam TIG the actual ball plate to the hitch...but if you have a good 220V stick welder you should be able to get 1/2" penetration in one pass. And just so you know DOT gets real excited if you cause a highway issue with a non-DOT approved hitch...however a little common sense here goes a long way to eliminating an issue/risk from that perspective .
