6 cylinder into an LJ79 ?

i know, i have heard nightmares about the H15* series tranny.
of course, since it is my opinion that the H55 is the best, it is just that, my opinion.
what i do know, the H55 shifts smoother than the H15*. has better gear spacing than the H15*, lower first than the H15* and a better O/D ratio than the H15* ...
carry on.

If I use a 1HZ and manual trans taken out of an HZJ77, will those be suitable for mt project ? I will have to measure up and see if I can squeeze the 1HZ into the LJ79 engine bay by doing away with the viscous clutch and mechanical fan and install an electric fan instead.

Will that trans, connect up to the existing speedo ok ? Will the 1HZ drive the existing rev counter ?

Gonna start another thread about a different option (1Kz)

still won't fit cleanly.
take some advice from those that have done the swap, get a HD 70 front clip and install
clean, proper install.
you are going to be investing a ton of time and money, why not do it right the first time?
KZ? silly boy, KZ are not a good engine

Thanks for the input..

If this was my vehicle I would jump at installing the longer front clip. How ever, my friend who owns the vehicle does not want the front appearance to change under any circumstances. Meaning it must still have the same grill and lights.

If push comes to shove, I can lengthen the LJ79 front to accommodate the 6 but still keep the same face of the vehicle.

I have a BJ73 with a 1KZ and auto. Also a lot of folks out here in Sri Lanka run 1KZ in various vehicles without much issue. We dont expose them to prolonged high revs due to having low average speeds and no motorways to drive at speed for long. What we really need is acceleration to overtake.

I have read that the 1KZ needs to be cared for like a baby and that it can give problems if not looked after.

then, if you want to keep the baby face, then do the KZ engine swap. that way you KNOW it will fit, parts are readily accessible and it will look clean and proper when done.
although, i have a complete dislike for that engine due to the head cracking issues ... although not as bad as the 2LTE.

sad, since the 1HZ/1PZ rocks in those vehicles.

i did some measuring before I sold my mine trucks. 1PZ 5 cylinder would be the ultimate swap and is possible while keeping the original front clip. could use the stock tranny i think? may not be pretty under the hood, just keep the hood shut. ;) there's a 1PZ for sale on kijiji.ca, pretty far from sri lanka...

you will need to move the tranny and mount back 5", the PZ uses a unique input shaft and bell housing.

OK so all things considered, I think I'll go the KZ rout.

I have found a 1KZ engine and R151f transmission in Australia. They are from a 2000 Prado.

Will these work for my project ?
