Hi all,

I'm looking at engine options for a project I'm planing on a friends LJ79.

Can a 1HD or 1HZ be fitted into the LJ79 ?

He is very keen that it remain manual so I'll have t find an engine and transmission set up in manual form but I would ideally like to put in one of the 6 cylinder engines in it.

you need to change the front sheet metal but yes, it can be done ... quite easily.

Thanks for that... with the front end change, does the appearance of the front change ? does it then look like a different model like with round lights ? or will it look like the 76 series or will the front appearance remain the same ?

really? this i gotta see. it is tight even with moving the rad support ahead the 4+"

At a squeeze it can be done without changing the front over, but you need to get very creative elsewhere and use a hammer.

yeah mate it would be a real piece of clever work to get one in there its really tight with a v8 in the engine bay and they are a lot shorter than a straight 6

curious to see the pics and the quality of finish.
as you know i have done a couple HZ and PZ installs, she be really tight.

I would love to see the pics too. My friend who own the LJ79, is not happy for its front appearance to change. I can do any amount of sheet metal work.
I guess I can go for an electric fan instead of the mechanical fan. This would allow the engine to be that much closer to the rad.

What donor vehicle should the engine and gearbox be from ?

your going to hodge modge an engine in?
do it right or don't do it at all.

i gotta see these pics of a HZ into the LD LC engine bay, gotta be some quality stuff happen'n

looks like the firewall needed some "massaging" as well.
shows it can be done
also shows a less than clean install.

pre 1998 70 series, this way you end up with the HZ and the H55 and not the R151 s*** tranny.

they came with the H150/H151, long body, the R151 would fit your application better than the H151.
the H55 is the best 5 speed toyota has made for the LC, period.

you oculd buy a HDFT and the bell housing from the HZ for the H55 ... IF you wanted to go that way.
