Beautiful tall Birch trees in NW Colorado. Sept. 2021

HOTW Tall Birch NW CO.jpeg

Initinal fitting of a new Overland Kitchen into the rear of my T4R. Still have to get them semi-permanently mounted and airtrack installed on the top, etc. When completed will have my Engel MT45 frig on right side and either a propane or dual fuel stove, a prep table, and two huge drawers on the left side. Two 20 L water jerry cans fit perfectly between the frig and the plastic wheel well cover.

Just finished the IDBDR. Great trip. But if you decide to do it I strongly suggest you not take a trailer. Early on there are two days of bench roads, single track, few turn outs, no turn-arounds, and many switchbacks. This is followed by even more days of the same. Otherwise it is just incredible!

A couple more pics. We typically keep our hoods up at night. Rodents, especially pack rats, love to crawl up under the hood. they can wreck havoc with your wiring.

A taste of things to come. I'm replacing my rear seats with a shelf. Looked at the Goose gear shelf, choked on the price (doesn't even come with instructions) and long wait time. Found a neighborhood fabricator just down the block from me. 1" tubular steel gusseted frame. Will have a 3/4" plywood deck covered in black auto/speaker carpet with L-track for tie-downs on top and SS rings at floor level. Everything bolts down to floor using stock bolts and threaded holes. So will be easily removable and seats reinstalled. Front legs are approximately 13.5" tall so that the shelf will clear the plastic rear "humps" along the sides by 0.25". should be completed and installed within a week or two. Waiting for some final parts from Amazon.

Interesting. Toss up some pics of your set up when you're done.

The shelf is pretty much complete and installed. I still need to order some corner protectors and get them mounted. It sits about 15-1/2" to the bottom and 17-1/2" to it's top directly behind the front seats. I will be adding mounting points on the Overland Kitchen to hold my first aid Pellican case and a small propane mount and tank. The proposed location is shown in the last picture.

The final shelf is 29-1/2" X 50-1/2". I am really impressed with it. I have done a quick test with large storage bins and the good old Rubber Maid Action Packers that I have used for over 25 Years. Both sets tie down beautifully and still allow me excellent vision through the rear window. Note that I have stored two large camp cots under one side. They take up only about a quarter of the floor space allowing me even more storage on the passenger side. This will give you an idea of how much room I have gained for camping gear, clothing, and food.

Hey guys, long time Mud member first time on the 4Runner side of things.
In April I purchased a ‘22 Trd off-road. This is my second forerunner. The first one was an 88 that I owned in the early 90s wish I never would’ve sold that awesome truck.

It was time to move my 21 year old suburban with 300,000 miles on it until the back up position so I took my new 4Runner with me up to the Tetons for the summer, did absolutely everything I asked if it wonderful wonderful truck. Right now I’m just considering upgrades wheels and tires eventually new roof rack perhaps a winch and front bumper assembly but no rush.

She fits nicely in the garage with the old suburban, and my troopy.

Two out of three ain't bad!!

Found the mud forums a few months ago while shopping and researching Land Cruisers and GX's. Figured I should make a post in the 4Runner section since that's what I currently own. Few pics... the snowy one is most recent (winter '22) followed by a day out at Barnwell Mountain in East Tx and another fresh off a wash the summer before. :)
