Looks like someone will be popping their 200k cherry on the way to Ouray! What better celebration and testament to these vehicles than 100s in the Hills!?! Woohooo!

If you're coming from Ouray (or points north), camp is located 7.9 miles SOUTH of 3rd Ave in Ouray on Hwy 550 on the EAST side of the road. You'll turn left off 550. You will see the parking/camping area down a slight hill.

If you're coming from Silverton (or points south), camp is located 14.3 miles NORTH of Silverton. You'll turn right (EAST) and into the camp area. You will be able to see the area from the road through the aspen trees.https://www.google.com/maps/dir/37....53,-107.6913513,14z/data=!4m4!4m3!1m0!1m0!3e0

My plan is to arrive to camp on Thursday night. Will anyone else be there too? Do I need to get a room for the night or are we good to camp
a day early?

Thanks,

Ko

By the time you arrive there will be 25 other trucks there partying already! :bounce::beer::popcorn::clap::cheers::steer::rimshot::princess::smokin::moon::bounce2: Trust me, you will not be early at all! I'm shooting for wednesday afternoon.

Yep, getting there early is fine. If you get the spot that Stan and I want, you will have 10 minutes to move...... Haha. JK[emoji28]

We are planning for Wed afternoon arrival as well.

Trying to plan the rest of the trip. We are gonna spend the following week in CO slowly making our way back to Denver. Any suggestions? We want to go to aspen, Breckinridge, boulder but what should we do/see? The plan is to be in Denver/boulder area by Saturday night so we can do the return trip to STL on Sunday without it being too long.

It's kind of out of the way but the Collegiate Peaks area around Buena Vista and Salida are really cool places to visit. There are a bunch of old forest roads and mining roads in the area for off-highway travel. And the area is remote enough that it's not very crowded.

I'm coming in Thursday afternoon, as well. You might want to explore around Leadville and stop at the market in Minturn on the weekend. I got a kick out of that.

Enjoyed the air pressure opinions. I won't bother with the compressor and just air down once since the stations actually have hoses up there.

Bumped the rv rental up a day so the wusses will be showing up Thursday evening before sundown if things go according to plan which I doubt. I'll try and find a corner to park the RV so you can poke fun at us then make fun of my fake beer as my crew gets out dressed for a blizzard.

Too bad the smilies don't look as fun on the phone as they do on the desktop!

From Aspen take Independence Pass over to Twin Lakes, beautiful place, beautiful pass. Then go up to Weston pass and take it over to the 285 and go North to Fairplay and head into Breckenridge north on the 9. I havent been on Weston Pass for some time but it was very easy several years ago. Its somewehre near Beaver Lakes south of Leadville. After that go north on the 9 to Swan Mountain road and head into Keystone on the 6. All the way at the end of Keystone resort there is a road that goes up to Montezuma, take that. Drive up past Montezuma and explore those old trails. Lots of mines, very very beautiful all up on the divide. After you are done there go back down to the 6 and take a right to head over Loveland Pass to I70 and down to denver. Stop at Beau Joes Pizza in Idaho Springs on the way to Denver.

The guys more familiar with the area can say for sure but I believe all (or most) gas stations with air will lock it all up at closing time! I got stuck with low pressure one time when I actually needed to air up and they were all closed! I did not have my own portable one at the time!

Unless you're leaving after 11pm at night, you'll have no issues.

FIREWOOD:
Please buy it locally. Ridgway has a few gas stations and a general store that sell all the wood you can carry. It's important to buy/burn local to avoid transporting any invasive species into the area. Please do not bring wood from home.

TABLES:
If you have room for a camp table, please bring it. We will need as many as we can get for the Friday Night Pot Luck/Raffle.

FOOD:
Bring something awesome, or stop at the market in Ridgway and buy something to share. Just about everything you need can be purchased at the Mountain Market in Ridgway. Ouray, Telluride, Silverton and Ridgway have anything you may have a craving for food-wise. We can give recommendations if there is something in particular that you want. Expect typical mountain town prices, but still very reasonable. There are no fast food places in any of those towns so if you need a Big Mac, you'll need to travel to Montrose (about 30-40 mins). You can get anything and everything in Montrose.

Please travel safely to this event. There is no need to rush. Take your time on the mountain roads. US550 does not have any guardrails and it's about a 1000 foot drop to the bottom of the canyon. Getting in late is always better than not at all. Be alert for deer, elk, moose and bear on the roads around HIH. We will get very little phone service in Ironton, but we can be reached via HAM radio on 146.460. Your daily CB and HAM frequencies will be given out prior to each run.

One last thing..... if you like quiet evenings or if you have small children, select a camp spot away from the fire. It's not unheard of for a group to stay up into the morning hours around the fire. @bluecruiser usually howls at the moon around 2am, so be prepared.

The map that was provided earlier shows two large camp areas in Ironton. We've held the event at both and I will make the decision as to which is best on Thursday morning. It depends on how many other folks are camped and the conditions. Trust me, you won't miss a field full of 100 Series. You can easily see our camp from the road.

Most importantly, have fun! This year is going to be awesome. See you all in Ouray.

BONUS:
The best photo from the event will be selected and printed in an upcoming issue of OutdoorX4 Magazine! You do not need to be a professional photographer out here. I have had photos published from the area that were taken on an iPhone. Everywhere you look is a photo op!
