I need to get an hd spring for it just to be safe. I might drill a hole or two for more mounting since it seems to be a bit weak.

Start packing guys/gals! We are not too far off from HIH5! Nothing more stressful than those last minute tweaks/fixes/mods. (Though I have pretty much done them on every trip I have ever taken and do not seem to learn)

You may want to list items you are planning on doing, buying, etc. in this thread. The HIH veterans may be able to offer feedback (and save you a couple bucks!). And as a not so subtle reminder......SUPPORT OUR VENDORS! Thanks!!

Greetings from Moab. No wheeling, just visiting and it's making me think about HIH.

Bear canister? Yes or no. By the way just recieved my Gamviti roof rack mounts. High quality.

Has the trail request form been sent out yet? Hopefully I'm not missing anything.

Have a great/safe Independence Day everybody!

Sorry, it has not. This is on me. I'm late getting this finished. I guarantee that everyone will run the trails they want to run. It may not be in the exact order, but you'll get the trails you want. Black Bear will be run all 3 days as well.

Sorry everyone, I've been swamped with last minute details with the magazines and two other events I've leading/planning for. Expect it very soon.

This may have been covered somewhere and I haven't seen it. When do we leave? Camp on the 2nd or leave on the 2nd? Just trying to plan a little here. We will leave the 3rd but curious what everyone else is doing.

This is a dispersed camping area. You're free to stay as long as you like. I'll probably leave on the 3rd or 4th. I have to be in SLC on the 5th, so I may stay until the afternoon of the 4th, or leave the 3rd and work my way to SLC via a fun route.

What are the accepted way or ways of dealing with, uh, waste? Catholes? Do we have to pack out what we pack in? Since it looks like we're going to usually be above the treeline, do we need a privacy enclosure?

There will be porta potty at the camp site for all to use.
Showers can be taken at a few locations at the nearby towns. -+ $3 per shower.

Kind of close to mess with complicated installation so I would recommend you to just get a cheaper handheld online n relax! About $35 on amazon.

I went on the cheap.

As noted above, we have porta-potties being delivered to HIH HQ. If the need arises on the trail, wag-bags (Ozark Trail, Restop) and a cheap folding pottie work best. Please don't lay one down on the trail. It takes a long time for that stuff to go away and it's not the most sanitary option. Wag-bag's can be used, sealed shut and tossed in the next guys Trasharoo as a prize for being the closest to you.

They make wag-bags specifically for #1 or #2. At HIH 3, a guy unfamiliar with wag-bags managed to get a #2 in a #1 bag, I'm not even sure how.

Was able to borrow a CB, turns out it's a 70's vintage Publicom 23 channel radio.

Everything works however should I have something more modern/something with all 40 channels?

You can pick up a Uniden pro520XL for about $40 shipped. I've read a bunch of good reviews about those.
