'62 FJ40 in the Netherlands

and

1963 FJ45V in The Netherlands

I think this title is good. Many months ago I saw a FJ25 on Facebook for sale in Peru. It has been advertised here on mud too, some of you know. I decided to contact the seller.

(Very) long story short: two weeks ago the FJ25 arrived. Rare early example it is. Some rust but not rotten. Lots of original parts still present. Unfortunately the compete interior is missing, including the gas tank and filler.

But the good thing is it has the correct:
  • Wheels (4 of them)
  • Engine
  • Carb
  • Fuel pump with filter
  • Master and clutch cilinder
  • Toyota plates
  • Vacuum wipers
  • starter and generator
  • distributor
  • trailer socket
Frame numer 8-FJ25-5716L

more photos are on the way.

It was red when it left the factory. It has the old tailgate like the one Gabe has.
I’m wondering where the taillights would have been. Looks like they were mounted in the body. No idea what they have looked like.
Any early literature with this setup? Not in the partsbook…

I think you might have this set up.
One combination light, tail light, brake light, license plate light that is mounted to the license plate bracket.
Then two, what the book calls parking lights(/or turn signal lights, i think) in the body where you have the holes.

Working on the brakes:

The cylinders are a little pitted. The search for a replacement is tough. Didn’t find info here on the forum too. See if we can get them good enough or if not we have to find somebody that can put a sleeve in.

The leaf springs are very worn.
Hope you can see on the picture:

Must have had a tough life. The rears are longer then FJ40 leafs. So we’ll have to find a replacement one day.

Some progress on the 25. As said, it has had tough life. Rear axle is fixed for now. We put new seals in the brake cilinders and we are quite happy with the result. Hope it will hold up. The rear leaf springs are toast. We found some parabolic springs with the right length. We will see how this goes.

Now working on the front axle. Mostly all of the internals are gone. And the parts that are present are butchered. We will probably make one axle out of this and the one from the 63 45V (which will get 70 series axles).

Everyone is saying the early 40’s and the 25’s used the same front and tail light with 3 screws. Which are still available with repop lenses.
But in the parts book I see lenses that are not screwed but held in rubber. This is what’s on this car in front:

I don’t know if this is OEM or a later mod, but it looks like what’s in the parts book as showed above. And the wires might well be original.
Any options for replacement? Does anyone have a picture of this light intact? These are 70mm.
All pictures I find on the forum or on the web have the three screw lights.

So cool. I already forwarded the pic of the old tire to a friend.😉

This rig has the only other external distributor advancer Ive ever seen. I've had one on my shelf for many years from one of the 25s I've parted out. Would love to see it go to a new home.

Who can help me with a part number for a clutch disc? I found 31250-69010 but can't find that or a replacement number. And don't know if this is correct for 1958?

It is 280 mm and 10 splines.

This is what's in the part number thread. I bought one but haven't tried it yet.

Chevy 11”, 10 spline, 1-1/8” input. Perfection - RCF606

FWIW, I have a vague recollection that when I parted out the’59 in my backyard 20 something years ago, the disc that was in mine had the Chevy square-toothed splines.
