Grinding for the crosspin is only on c/clip rear as the case w/ fj80. Not applicable to fullfloat fzj80. This type of grinding is commonplace with installs of low gear ratios in many c-clip rearends. I have done this numerous times, and have sold hundreds of gears that have been ground for x/pin and have yet to see one fail if ground properly.

here is a more extreme case, a pic of a LC 5.29 gear that has been clearenced for removal/install of a detroit locker (the centerblock is larger than std x/pin) This was done nearly 10 years ago and still in use!
The other pic is of where you would grind for a std dia. x/pin

Thanks for the pics!

Nice cruiser. Now you need to put some body damage on it.

Thats the best angle. the rest is well scratched and dented!

I've said it a bunch of times, but nobody seems to care. When I installed the 5.29s and my auburn limited slip I DID NOT grind my gears, but did grind my center pin. Mines a semi-float axle though. I just clocked the ring so that a space in the teeth lined up with the pin.

Therealratfink, I tried to grind the center pin first based on your input, but that only works in certain applications. After putting it all back together with the aussielocker in there I had horrible noises coming from the locker. It turns out that any grinding of the center pin causes it not to work. I took so much time grinding the pin and making sure it wasn't touched in areas that the aussie needs to operate only to find it needs the whole pin intact. so I removed the Aussielocker, ground the ring gear to clear a whole center pin, put it together with the stock side and spider gears and am currently waiting for CDan to come back from vacation to order a new center pin.

That sucks. I have no experience with the Aussielocker in these rigs. Sorry.

As far as I know there is no gear for lower gearing for a cable speedo, 91-2 have no electric option like a yellow box.

I have yet to find anything either.

I would not reccomend grinding the pin. As I said, never seen a failure of the gear if ground properly, but I have seen failures when the x/pin was ground.
I have some x/pins in stock if you need to replace yours.

See post above you, JT's parts and accessories. www.justdifferentials.com I would suggest calling to place your order. I think it was like $800ish for the gearsets and master install kits. another $600 to have someone set them up. good luck!

Installed the gears in the beast on Monday and have been driving it since then. Let me say this. If you have a 3F-e powered 80 and want to run 35s this is the way to go. At 70 mph it is only turning 2500-2600 rpm. It no longer has to downshift on the highway on minor hills. Around town it has much more pep and drives so much nicer than it ever has. My father-in law bought the truck new and even he says it has never had this much power.

Unfortuanately I will not be able to do much more for about a week because a horrible vibration has reared it's ugly head at higher speeds. Now that the transfer case is turning at higher speeds It is producing a bad vibe. After digging around I found that the rear output of the transfer has about 1/8 of an inch of play in it. bearing will be here next week.

Pic of the 80 with the mutts after the install.

no one is getting near that rig with tha crew!

5.29's going in my 91 with an ARB Locker. Before pic.... let me see if I can dig up the after pic...
