A few of us are working on a group buy from 4x4 labs.
The deal is 10% off of anything they make. The shipping should be cheaper as he is going to put it all on one pallet (hopefully). If you are interested in this, go to their website and get the link to the exact item(s) you want and paste the link here. Also, in case the link doesn't work, describe the item in your post as confirmation. I'll update the main post, so check to see that I got your order correct. In the case of their DIY kits, I will be helping with the welding/assembly.

It doesn't appear they make 60 series sliders so I'd like to get the 60 rear bumper and 80 front bumper as kits.

I just looked and they are substantially more expensive than trail tailor or some others. Is their product that much better?

Well, if you look at the design, there are some key rear bumper improvements over trail tailor. Personally I wouldn't buy the trail tailor due to the rear quarter protection they offer.

Good to know...I am looking for a good slider for the 100s. I like their kick out style... Can we get a quote for those? The site has a few different prices on the same page for them..

You have to select the options, like kit of built, with or without coating, etc... I am going built / coated because I am busy AF with a zillion unfinished projects.

I still think Luke builds/designs some of the best looking bumpers out there. I built mine about ten years ago and even built in a few custom improvements of my own, better latch, hidden swinout stops, rounding over every sharp edge, etc. I guess you could say you can put as much or little effort into the assembly as you’re comfortable with. If you’re buying one assembled, I’d ask for some specifics and pics of what an assembled bumper currently entails from a finish standpoint. I’ve seen them really well finished, rounded corners and such and I’ve seen them merely welded together with a lot of sharp/square butt joints.

If I didn’t have a Shortbus, I’d probably rather have Luke’s front bumper for symmetry.

All that said, I have a commercial address and forklift if you need too

I have the 4x4 labs rear bumper and sliders on my 80. The rear bumper is an A+. The sliders cat guard traps a lot of heat. Workmanship is top notch.

A big fan of white knuckle offroad plus they do a cash discount and if you pick up...no shipping

I had White Knuckle sliders on my last 60 and they were great. I am going to go with them again on sliders for my present 60.

I’m almost there at full cost but if I can save I’ll jump on it right away .

I have this exact setup as shown in the above photo on my '97 80... All in all I have to say it works well, but the spare tire gets into a sympathetic resonance vibration at highway speeds on concrete road with seams and gets the tire mount wiggling front to back about half an inch or more. It makes the ride pretty uncomfortable when it happens and depending on traffic speeding up or down isn't always feasible or safe. It doesn't happen on smooth asphalt highways, and offroad who cares, any vibration is lost in the noise... I have called and spoken with HD @ 4x4Labs about the vibration and he says it's the first he's heard of it. Nevertheless the vibration has been a topic of discussion on other forums here in mud. Ted has the CBI bumper on his 4runner which is more stout and a better design in my opinion with fold out table options, but alas CBI doesn't appear to make a bumper for the 80 series.

That is interesting regarding the vibes. I have that bumper but without the can carrier and have zero issues with vibes. I carry my bike on the spare tire quite often. How tight are the latch clamps? Mine are very tight. I use my foot to latch it.

My latch is very tight; same as you, I use my foot to latch it and it's damn hard to unlatch by hand. I have had the latch stops coated with several layers of duct tape to prevent rattling on rough roads. 'HD' at 4x4Labs recommended against metal on metal here and using a piece of thick rubber glued to the bumper stop (he said he used a piece of sidewall cut out of a tire and glued it on with PL500). I cleaned off all the tape muck and added a 1/16" piece of silicone rubber glued on with E6000, but nothing really sticks to the silicone so it's not really stuck and I'll update that soon.

That almost sounds like a manufacturing tolerance issue. For example, that tab to which the gates rest when latch isn't in the right place so that the gates are pressing tightly against it when latched. Maybe one of these days we can measure our bumpers and see if there is a difference.

Well, good feedback either way.

An additional link on the topic - Like others have mentioned, I do like my 4x4Labs bumper and believe it to be among the best out there, but there is room for improvement or modification.

I wonder if something like this would help. McMaster-Carr

I was going to install some on mine.

I think the vibrations can largely be attributed to the fact that the swing arm and tire “post” have no real trussing to the point of creating a great enough degree of triangulation. A square tube welded to a square tube just allows for flex. On the concrete sections of highway, ours experiences front to rear vibration, but I don’t feel as if there’s anything noticeable side to side.

Ours has no rattles though. I keep the stops greased to avoid squeaks, but that’s about it.

I don't have any side to side vibration either and agree with regard to the lack of trussing or reinforcement on the tire mount being the root of the problem. It's interesting that some people experience it and others seem not to. Basically you've got a 100+ pound mass at the end of a 2 foot arm attached at a right angle to an unsupported 3 foot arm and held only by the swing bearing at the far end. My guess is the 200 foot-pound torque on the 3 foot long 2" square tubing is sufficient to cause the 1/2" tire deflection once the resonance is triggered. I can wallop the tire with my fist and get it going by hand. I suspect adding something wedged between the tire and the truck body (hatch or tailgate) to dampen the vibration and prevent the resonance will be sufficient to mitigate the problem, but it'll take some experimentation.

I am very interested in their 80 series rear bumper. I also have a commercial addess with fork lift. You say you can help with the diy kits? I have zero experience with welding, would love to save $$ with the kit if you can help me out with the welding part.
