When using the original Toyota 4WD floor shifter with a non-Toyota transmission on a Chevota conversion the transmission adapter manufacturer (Advance Adapters or Downey) normally provides a new mounting bracket for the 4WD floor shifter pivot pin, necessary since the stock transmission pivot pin mounting location has been aborted. Normally use of a fatter non-Toyota transmission, and use of a new shifter mounting bracket shifts the whole 4WD floor shifter towards the passengers side, which makes the shifter loose contact with the bottom front wheel drive shifting chamber. This problem can be easily remedied by installing a 12mm bolt into the bottom end of the shifting lever, the 12mm bolt having the correct allen head diameter to match the slot in the shifting chamber, and also having adjustability into or away from the chamber. You can use a 12mm-1.25 thread pitch by 20mm long allen head bolt, with an allen head diameter of .700 to .710 (their normal size). You will remove the stock lug that engages into the shifting chamber from the bottom of the shift lever, then drill a .465" diameter into the lever where the lug was, this hole now allows use of the 12mm bolt. You will need two jam nuts of the same 12mm thread pitch to lock position of the 12mm bolt into the shift lever.

My friend sold his FJ55 so I don't need to worry about this anymore, but it is good info.

Man, I fought that set up for many years with my SM465 / 3speed transfer. Went to twin sticks without a failure.
