last year there were trail sign ups, will this be happening again?

A lot has happened since I last posted. My drive to HIH will be much shorter this year, by about 23 hours! I relocated the family to western Colorado just a few weeks ago. I am still trying to get time off to attend the event this year, as of now its still really up in the air. Just wanted to subscribe and make my presence known. And yes, I will be bringing the "treehouse smoker" as some of you referred to it last year. LOL

Packing things up here. Leaving on Thursday 7/17. It looks crazy in my garage with all this gear.

Lurking this post. So cool to see everyone get so excited. Prep pics please.

Good stuff out there with all of the posts! My son and I are getting amped for the 4th Annual HIH! Working on some thoughts for the Pot-luck on Friday night. What's everyone bringing this year? I was thinking about doing a smoked pork shoulder with BBQ sauce again...but then I am thinking maybe some Thai Coconut Chicken Green Curry and rice or maybe some Carne Asada...???? NTSaint...are you bringing your Jambayla (?) again? What say you? (PLEASE, no unbaked frozen pies this year! :) ) Let's kick it up a notch!

Ha, yeah, brought gumbo last year, but actually was thinking about doing a chicken and sausage Jambalaya for this year. Be much easier to serve at the potluck.

NTSaint....it all sounds great to me! I love the Cajun representation...the spicier the better! So...we got jambalaya covered....who else is bringing what?

Only 2 weeks way and lots to do still!
I know the focus right now is on the FJ summit (I know you guys are having fun and I'm jealous) but are we having some more updates coming up? I mean, the spot holders for details on the 1st page are still empty.
How about the trail sign up and food list?
Can't wait for this, getting close!

Trying to think of what we can bring. We are flying into Denver then driving up. Going to take some thought......

For those of you that have been to this event in the past, could you fill in some blanks for us new guys/gals. I see info about a pot luck on Friday? Had no idea? What are the days like? What should we plan for food? Does anyone run into town in the evening to grab a bite? I guess what I'm asking is for "anyone" to fill in some blanks, OK all the blanks? We know when we're getting there and know when we're leaving. Everything in-between would be nice. LOL! Thanks

I was there last year and you are on your own from all meals...so whatever you want to do is up to you. Yes, there is a pot-luck on Friday night, planned again I think. Bring good food and your favorite micro beer. If you are camping be up and ready to roll around 9 a.m. Be prepared to make lunch on the trail, but you may also have an opportunity to grabl something in Telluride or Ouray, depending on the trails you do. Same with dinner. Lots of flexibility and options on how your days and stomach are filled!

The whole thing is very laid back and you are not forced to do anything except be ready to head to the trail on time (if you decide you are going).

As BJTLC100 said, bring or buy your own food. There is a massive shared pot luck on friday night when we really get to meet and greed everyone, eat, drink, have fun, put faces to avatars, prize raffles (nice stuff!!!) and just enjoy being out with lots of cool people in an amazing place!

There should be a sign up list coming up soon for the daily trails so we have the big group divided into smaller ones and those will head different directions.

The towns near camp (I'm assuming base camp will be the same as last years due to group size) have plenty of good food for those not crazy about trail cooking!

Also there are places near by where you can pay a couple dollars and have a nice shower instead of spending 3-4 smelly days!

Most likely we'll have some RAIN! Plan for wet and mud. Can be hot during daytime and cold at night so again, plan for it.

Most of all, RELAX and HAVE FUN!!!

Thanks ! That's very helpful. We are so looking forward to this trip! This will be my 3rd trip to Ouray & the first in the Land Cruiser. My 2001 Jeep Cherokee took every trail except the Wall on Poughkeepsie Gulch. It will be great to see how well the LC takes the trails. A guy I work with has a LX that Slee hooked up and a home in Telluride. I guess he didn't get singed up for this event but wanted to come by and meet the vendors/sponsors etc... Is this ok? If yes what day is best?
