Today as I was leaving the store I had some weird problems with the 4runner. Check engine, and all 3 traction control lights came on, along with a very rough idle and a top speed around 15. Went to the gas station and topped off, from half, then couldn't get the truck started for about 20 minutes. Disconnected battery to reset ECU. No luck. Wound up getting a tow to the dealer, they were closed so I won't know anything til morning.

Had timing belt service done about 2,000 miles ago, at 114k now. No problems until now, all maintenance has been done. Really curious/ scared to see what it is. Seems pretty bad, I'll keep it updated when I get more information.

Just look out for this...

Good news is you threw a code. Sounds like your engine went into survival mode, the code will tell the tale.

At Toyota this morning. Looks like the timing is off, had the service done 2,000 miles ago and hadn't had any problems until now. Getting it done again now, doesn't look like the valves were messed up. I'll know once this is done, this evening or tomorrow morning.

^^^ Well that's not cool. I hope it turns out good.

New update.

Timing wasn't off. One of the bolts for the water pump backed out and messed up a few things, knocked out the cam shaft sensor. Part is on order and I'll have it back Thursday when they get it in.

It was a mechanic I have used for the past 8 years and he really knows his stuff, just made a mistake. Have an awkward conversation coming today when I go over there. I'm sure he'll do me right. He's always been fair, but mainly because he has no defense here.

yeah, I had a similar situation with a mechanic friend I've known most of my life. He completely forgot to tighten the two main bolts holding the front driver caliper. I only saw it because I was changing the brake pads myself that same day. The bolts had already backed nearly halfway out and it was only a 3 mile trip home.

If my wife had driven it to work the next day, she would have had SERIOUS problems. I still havent had the convo with him yet.....its gonna be awkward, like you said.
