4BT wins in raw power/torque, but it will be loud as hell in an FJ40 tin can unless you add sound deadening and carpet.

I've READ that if you take the time to balance the bottom end of a 4bt and install liquid engine mounts that it makes for a much more comfortable motor. Again...i've not seen this first hand.

my SBC is loud in a 40! a 40 rolling down hill with mud tyres and engine off is loud!!!

I did some reading on the OM606. Seems that the 606 will have the same issues as the 617 for performance gains. Will need a euro spec IP and then rebuilt to the tune of some 2K and some change for longer/larger plungers. Then for even better performance custom built intake and exhaust manifolds.

I'm thinking just a OM617 with an HY35, intercooler, max out the injector screw and 3" mandrel exhaust and call it day...just watch the pyro.

I don't have a tach on my OM617 in the FJ55, but at 65MPH with a H42 and 3:73s I'm sitting at a comfortable 850* EGT and pushing 7.5psi of boost.

what size tires are you running as I agree...65 tops in a 40...unless you are on an episode of jackass
