Thanks mate, I couldn't see in there properly because there was so much red dust and I didn't want to break anything. I'll have a go today.

You can run 305x70rx16" which is around 33". Original light truck tyres on 16" wheels were pretty close 32"

"Sizes of the form 7.50 16, 7.00 16, 8.25x16, 750R16, 10.50 20 etc. First number is the tyre tread width in inches, the second is the rim diameter suited to the tyre. The overall height of the tyre can be simply arrived at, as the `profile' of this type of tyre is normally 100% (sidewall is as high as tread is wide). Overall rolling diameter= 2X(first number) + (second number) eg. A 7.50 16 SAT is approximately (2X7.5) + 16 = 31" tall (actually closer to 32" but you were warned)."
Thanks for that information, very helpful. It's worth a try...

As you can see from the pics the floor has the factory? bitumen on it. So I have been taking it out with a chisel. The next step is to weld up the floor but I don't have the thickness of it. Does anyone know what it is?

I can't see what damage you're referring to..

But I see you're modifying your language because of ih8mud because we really call them mudguards don't we :D (assuming you're a dinkum Aussi) :D

hahaha that's a good one lostmarbles, you're a classic.

you see they are fine on closer inspection, cos I ran over them gently and not with the wheel.:D
looking back now I can laugh cos it's not every day that you see MUDGUARDS going forward faster than the cruiser;)

Good to see a bit of progress 47! To answer your questions, the floor sheet should be 1.6 like the rest of the truck. Anyone else concur or not? And yes, the front of the hood [sorry @lostmarbles ;)] is one of the more difficult to repair areas I've found. So, ahhhhhhh, GOOD LUCK WITH THAT :D

Thanks cult, I thought that it was 1.6 but when I got some it was heaps to thick. 0.8 ring any bells? The rest of it is 1.6 though...

Really?? I guess it could be, though I don't know why. Hopefully someone with an August '80 J4 or newer can chime in.. any moment now..

Guys?

Guys??

There's no one there man :meh:

Haha just use a LOT of paint.

I need some thoughts here with what to do with this left hand shock mount point thingy ma bob on the axle. Is it possible to cut it off and weld a new pin on or is there a better option?

Dude, legit cannot see what it is. Got a better pic?

That thing is downright filthsome! I wonder if you'd be better off getting a whole new axle assembly, maybe a disc brake front end.

here ya go cult...
the first pic is the good drivers side to compare it with the rest..
