Radiator was replaced in 2019, so assuming it should still be good.

Interestingly, she had the entire front differential replaced by Toyota in 2016 (for about $3300). Maybe she never changed the fluids out...
Typical dealer philosophy. Customer states clunk from the front end going from P-R-D. Recommend new front differential. :bang:

The work order from the Toyota dealership stated: "Customer noticed loud noise from front end while driving. Pulled over and had it towed"

Call me a glutton for punishment, potentially. I found this 2002 for sale locally and was intrigued. It was being sold by the original owner (who is now 77). She was from SoCal and moved here about 10 years ago. Had a stack of maintenance records about 3 inches thick. The body has some rust, but the frame is very clean, and the odometer has just over 479k miles on it. The price was dirt cheap for a running/driving Land Cruiser, so I couldn't pass it up.

I asked the owner if she would hop in tomorrow and drive it across the state, and she said 'In a heartbeat. She only sold it because her children convinced her that she needed something new and with fewer miles. She bought a Subaru and said she hates it. She did ask what the newest version of this would be - she said she's not interested in the 250 hybrid.

I ordered a plethora of parts to get started. My goal is to drive it daily and see how many miles I can get out of it.

The lady I purchased it from was super sweet and very sentimental about the truck. She shared a few stories of driving it across the U.S. multiple times and her memories. I promised her that when I get it close to 500k I would come see her and let her drive it over the 500k mile mark. She was ecstatic about that. A few pictures.

Can I buy it?

That’s an amazing find — $3k for a one-owner, clean-frame truck with nearly 500k is unreal. My LX470 had its own saga (hit while parked, thought the trans was gone, turned out to be just a valve body swap). Still keeping it alive, and stories like yours are a great reminder of why. I’m in the NYC area, where rust-free is near impossible, and always on the lookout for a cheap parts rig myself — will be following your 750k journey!

I’ll sell it to you if you really want it. I had new tires installed today and am taking it on its first long trip on Monday, driving my mom back to Fort Wayne. 5.5 hours each way.

I remember the gear oil odor in the rear of my 100 after a hot drive. It was just normal diff breather doing its thing; not clogged.

Make sure the spare tire hoist works and you have all the tire change tools.
I don’t see brakes on your list, but I assume that’s a gimme for you.

Fortunately she just had the front and rear brakes done last year, with new lines.

That’s comforting on the gear oil smell. I’ll check to make sure the diff breather isn’t clogged. I’ve climbed under there and couldn’t find oil anywhere, so there’s a good chance you are correct.
