The 3sp was the first thing that tipped me off... One thing that keeps me away from ebay is that for some strange reason, my computer doesn't show the photos there, but the second 45 in BC has a link or something so I CAN see those. Holy **** that green one is nice. It would be a great place to put those firestones on split rims I have behind the shop! Wonder what it will fetch, considering the funny painted one yesterday brought over 25 grand....Oh well, I just spent most of what I had left on 8 new wheel cyls, shoes and a master cyl for my new 45. I'm thrilled with my purchase, it's a perfect winter project and has so far kept me outa the bar. I just drink in the shop now, and the beer stays REALLY cold down there ( maybe tonight i'll have to go for a hot buttered rum).....Man, I gotta say that's a sweet fj 45!!!
I sent the guy with the orange one a message saying I was in the next town and asking if I could come by and see it. It will be interesting to see what his excuse for not being able to show it. "I'm out of town until after the auction, sorry" is what I expect.
Yes I have seen some scams popping up very recently on FJ's. The other day there was a FJ40 with 36K orig. miles. The reply email I got was a joke. Major scam. The ad was pulled within hours.
Noticed the red one has unusual tailgate hinges, a modded tailgate valence, and an unusual under-roof support rib. Still, a lot of hard and detail work on both the red and green ones.
I sent an e-mail to the diesel orange 45 owner. He said he was looking for $2900.00. It is a SCAM. He is now going by the name of Bret Donohoe. Different name each time. I looked again last night and the add had been pulled. Go figure. Don't waste your time on this clown.Mike
The green truck has BC plates, but the guys area code 808 is not local.
The vin numbers span about 20,000 between the two trucks which are three years apart in claimed age, but the photos show an FJ40 frame horn was spliced in at some time onto both trucks.
Three speed, drums brakes, claimed factory AC and power steering seems an odd combination.
They are nicely rebuilt trucks no matter the history though.
Thank God for photographs or seeing something in person.
Some of these guys either don't know what they're talking about, or I'm afraid, purposely lie about the history and construction of their trucks.
Ditto on the orange one; I also sent the guy a message telling him I was in the area and wanted to come over and look it; no response and the listing disappeared from ebay.
After Toyota switched to the four speed during the 1974 model year they switched back to three speeds in some markets. Something to do about being alot easier to work on in the middle of nowhere. So it could be correct I know I can't say for sure. No FJ45s got disk brakes in any market, all were drum up front. Toyota did some strange things over the years in the US the air cleaner changed with the 2F, that wasn't true world wide. Same with the rollbar and well as other things. Any FJ45 after a 1967 in this country wasn't imported by Toyota so you can't compare it to what was being imported here at the same time. The insert panel dash started with the 1983 model but I've seen them on ebay listed as early as 1980. Probably 83s but listed as a earlier cruisers to get around the twenty-five rule. I guess it's a buyer beware market
Does your literature indicate that the FJ40 LX versions had the panel-style dashes from 1981 up for the entire world-market, LHD and RHD? Same for the BJ42 LX and FJ43 LX variants, all prior to the whole-line use starting with the 1983 model year? Was there ever an LX version of the FJ45 longbeds?
And if I may ask, when did Toyota first start to put the H55F five-speeds into any of the 40,42,43,45 series?
