Not worried about rattling till aft of the tcase, can be hard mounted till then. So I'll err on the side of tcase, if it touches , no biggee.

It's the frame and body I want to avoid...

But that's tomorrows fun. bleh.
 
Mine was tapping on the frame at idle... good enough to drive one nuts :D

I've noticed now that the passenger side floor is a bit like a furnace... I might try a crack at building a heat shield... the idea looks pretty simple...

I think its the usual cruiser exhaust heat problems amplified by the fact I have a nice conductive aluminum floor...

I'm not sure if there's anything quite as hateful as fan shrouds. 42 is better than the 60, but still a total pain in the ass.

Makes me miss the Cat rad I had in the old crackwhore. twice as thick as the stock one, never had a shroud on it, never even got warm.

Gonna pick up a chunk of 2.5" tube and a couple bends today so I can yet again do exhaust, see if I can't get it to fit inside the frame rail beside the tcase...it'll be tight, but I hate it when it's outside under the passenger door.

About ten years ago I swore I'd never do exhaust again...since then...this is about the 10th time I've done it. :bang:

Hope the exhaust goes well. I've been lucky, had the exhaust built about 16 years ago, and I've only had to replace the mufflers 2 or 3 times since then.

I'm going to have a go at making it in removeable segments. Be nice to be able to pull out the middle bit when I rebuild the tcase in the next while.

Nobody's claimed the stock exhaust so I might swipe those couplers. Look like they're about 2.25" inside, which is about the same as the 2.5 exhaust. Otherwise I may have to fire up the plasma and hack a few out.

I'll wrap the first bit off the turbo, it's a bit close to....well, pretty much everything. :lol:


As for the hot floor, bah. that's the passenger side. Whoever sits there should just be grateful they aren't walking. :hillbilly:

Exhaust still needs work. Got the tube run the way I want to just aft of the tcase, had to scab it a bit from there back, but I knew it was temporary so I wasn't sweating it.

Once I get a flex coupler, I'll add a muffler. It's ignorant loud without one.:rolleyes:
Didn't want to add the mufflers weight without the flexy bits.

Flex couplers are less than half price on ebay, however I'm stuck waiting for my new credit card to arrive. ( seems my last one was buying shoes in paris without me.)

Those braided ones are like 75 bucks from most shops around here.

yeah, the shipping brings the price on a 2.5" one to just shy of 50 bucks.

Hardly worth the wait.

I'll see what my tame lordco drone can do next week when I feel like looking at exhaust again...

I'm sure after a couple burns to nanaimo when the headache sets in I'll be feeling more like dealing with it, loud burpy exhaust pisses me off.

I've got a couple with part numbers still on em', got them for the runner. I'll see if i can dig them up and find you the number to make your trip to the couter a little less painfull.

Awesome. Thanks man. I'm living without one at the moment and pretty much just a straight pipe.

Don't want to hang a heavy ass muffler and more bends off it till I get one.
Happy to not Fxxx with it for a while tho...:lol:
 
So to ad some enjoyment to an already totally awesome little job, it is physically impossible to remove the back half of the splitcase when it's mounted in stock location with a 5 speed in an 81 frame.

It almost comes off...it gets close enough that it tricks you into thinking that surely another inch of lowering the back of the engine would get it...but no.

So, crossmember dismemberment ensued.


I'll either make a new one, or install the original a little further back. Maybe make it removeable. We'll see. I'll have to get less pissed off at it first.

It was in the way of where I wanted to route the exhaust too, so it's had this coming for a while.

get that 1.5" diameter bad boy straight up the passenger side "A" pillar. Heck if you really want to be cool but an oversize tip on it! Perhaps a flapper on top.

Worst part of this is that I bet its actually been done. :hhmm:

and there's a deeply gay dodge just around the corner with stacks coming out of the box. No surprize, it's a short young man driving.

without the crossmember, it's damn near a straight run all the way to the rear axle for the exhaust...kinda liking that. Easy works for me.

Think I might actually do the exhaust first, then build crossmember. It's not critical that it's back in there right away.

I'll finish off the t case tomorrow. Got waylayed by a semi retarded albertan today...at least I managed to not kill him. :bang:
