I'm sure I'm the minority here, but does anyone else see these highly modified 100's (or anything for that matter) and just think it's a bit much? I'm not knocking you guys with built trucks, but when I see something like this going for $40k I just picture some dude buying it and commuting around with all that s*** strapped to it and never touching more than a forest service road. I mean...11 gallon HEATED water? Solar panels? 3 gas cans? Where the hell is this guy going across Africa....or are they just posting up stunting on people in the camp ground? Filling instagram up with photos of their rig on trails in broad daylight with all the lights on.

envious rant over.....

You mean like the Toyota version of buying a new Jeep Wrangler then going through and buying all of the cool things out of the Quadratech catalog when your tax return comes back in so you can hard park at the Target on Saturday morning with your man friends while your wives shop for patterned rugs and rubber-gripped kitchen utensils?

anyone have leads to his "gate build" in the rear cargo? i wan to do the same...make a cage to keep stuff from hitting my kids in the rear in an accident.

Best I would do is $22,500.00, but I personally find little value add for the mods.

I wonder what a dealership would give him on trade?

It looks like it was built by the overland company as a showcase for absolutely everything you could do to a 100 series. I’m sure some weekend warrior baller is the buyer and puts it next to said 2wd jeep with all the fixings from the Quadratec catalog...and take lots of Photoshopped pictures of it for Instagram like the ones posted.

I Personally appreciate the built not bought approach but I realize there’s others who don’t feel the same way.

Yes, it does feel like a hipster's rig. I agree.

It only takes one guy with either a fantasy of owning one or has just a lot money and no idea what this is to purchase this. Either way, the I find the purchaser more interesting than the item being sold.

That’s Bring a Trailer in a nutshell. Lots of the buyers on there have more money than sense, but they have fantasies about owning specific rare cars.

Absolutely dude. Every now and then you meet people who actually take trucks like this to Baja or all the way down through South America, but 99% of people are hitting forest roads that can be done in Subaru’s and stock pickup trucks. I will say here in Utah there are a few trails I have to take a couple gas cans on, mainly because of my awful mpg, but for the most part you’re always gonna be within 60 miles of a gas station whether you like it or not

I have crazy desires to be out on the trail, overlanding my life away - Epic Family Roadtrip style. Then my clients throw more deadlines at me, and my "escape" always gets pushed back.

Hell, I can BARELY use my LX as much as I'd like. I can't imagine how pissed I'd be if I bought this and never got to use it how I wanted.

That said, it's a pretty amazing build, and whoever ponies up to buy it will be a lucky person. But, yeah, it's a lotta dough (most things are these days - whether I agree with it or not).

Then most of us here are "try hards" with our 100s.

My dude, your LX will get you to 99% of the locations you and your family will camp. Roof top tents are for Africa or hipsters, and here in the states you don’t have to worry about anything a ground tent can’t keep out. Bears and cougars don’t bother us. If you’re worried about bears and cougars you got other issues. I’ve been backpacking in very remote places. The first time I was solo, I was afraid in my tent, but realized there’s no point. Statistically the numbers don’t add up, and setting up a tent, a good tent, is easy peasy. Remember that bears and cougars want nothing to do with you, normally.

Roof tents are lame. I’d consider a roof mount awning that won’t eat up my garage space off my truck

I'm with you 100%. In looking at those photos, it was honestly exhausting to see all that crap bolted on that you would have to deal with. I'm really happy with my simple build, and I wouldn't trade it for something like this if offered. But someone out there has a safari vest ready for action and just needs the truck to go with it, so more power to them.

All that said...I need to learn how to photograph a truck like this guy!

The truck was built to the owner's specifications and will sell for market value to a willing and able buyer on a website that spent over 10 years aggregating a specific audience. I see zero problems with that. While some of you may think its nonsensical, it makes 100% perfect sense to the buyer. We would ALL have built this truck different, sure, but to each his own and good luck to the seller!

I don't think so. Most of the builds I've seen on here seem practical for what the owners seem to use them for. This one just seems over the top, every bell and whistle they could think of style. There is a difference between adding lockers and a rack and RTT, or doing an SAS, and what this is. Maybe the person who buys it does take it through South America, but I'd be it ends up at Overland Expo, lots of "rig walk-around" vids incoming. I'm just a jealous poor so ignore me

As to the RTT comments....I don't have one. I've thought about it, but I can't justify the price. Camping with 2 small kids and a wife the simplicity seems worth it though. My wife likes being off the ground, and likes the idea of just popping it out. If I can get my wife in the woods more I can enjoy my truck more...so I can understand RTT's from that perspective. I currently let them sleep on my sleeping platform in the truck and I sleep in a hammock.

My comment is far less about my vehicle and far more about my time. I've already experienced a lot of what my LX can and will do. That's the good news. The bad news is that I don't often have the time to get away. Ah, life.

The comments about all the gear is just ancillary. In over 40 years of living, I've never had a RTT, and likely won't. I've slept in the back of trucks, on the ground, and in various types of ground tents. I've been across the western US and heard countless noises that are likely animals I wouldn't want to visit with. No worries there.
