Hi all.
Im adding two 4 pt. harness to rear seat in the 40, The last time my kids rode in it thay were still in car seats and the typical lap belt worked out fine.
My question is should I add another bar across the rear horizontally or could I just weld the brackets on the bar already there?
Here are a few pic's...

For you who may ask, Its a PRP bench seat IIRC its 42" wide.
Thanks for any thoughts.

Conventional wisdom suggests that the shoulder mount bar be at approximately shoulder level of the occupants. Your existing bar appears to be a little low...
Also, I found that you don't need to weld a bracket for strap attachment...the strap can wrap around the crossbar and use one of the (usually) supplied clamp-type strap-holders to secure it in place...

Hi Vitesse
I had this diagram laying around.
Hope it helps,

just went through this in the 60. Want it to mount around the shoulder line for sure. no downward pressure.

Your welcome!
Glad to help.

Also, I've heard an incident in a dune buggy where a belt was mounted low, and the back of the seat gave way, with bad results.

So, yea, mounted level with the shoulders would be best for sure.
B.
